Glomerular mesangial cells (MCs) are specialized vascular smooth muscle cells that play a critical role in the control of glomerular hemodynamics. One of the intriguing features of MCs is their extraordinary abundance in gap junctions (GJs). It has long been speculated that GJs may bridge MCs together and provide the mesangium with the characteristics of a functional syncytium. Accumulating scientific evidence supports this idea. GJs are reported to be critically involved in important physiological processes like tubuloglomerular feedback and glomerular filtration. In addition, GJs are implicated in the control of many cellular processes of MCs, including growth, differentiation and survival. This article summarizes the current knowledge on the roles of GJs in glomerular pathophysiology.

To investigate the short-term efficacy and safety of rituximab (RTX) in children with calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) resistant steroid resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS). A retrospective case analysis was conducted. Thirteen children with CNI resistant SRNS who were regularly treated with RTX (375 mg/m per dose (maximum dose 500 mg), 1 dose per week, a total of 4 doses) in Department of Nephrology, Children's Hospital of Fudan University from January 2016 to December 2023 were enrolled.

Background: Dense deposit disease (DDD) is a rare renal disorder major affecting adolescents and children, characterized by an absence of distinctive clinical symptoms. Its coexistence with other renal conditions complicates both diagnosis and treatment in clinical practice.
Case Presentation: We described a 15-year-old male adolescent presenting with nephrotic syndrome as the initial manifestation, with urinalysis indicating significantly elevated protein and erythrocytes.

Mechanical forces such as glomerular hyperfiltration are crucial in the pathogenesis and progression of diabetic kidney disease. Piezo2 is a mechanosensitive cation channel and plays a major role in various biological and pathophysiological phenomena. We previously reported Piezo2 expression in mouse and rat kidneys and its alteration by dehydration and hypertension.

Purpose: This study seeks to investigate the fundamental molecular processes through which histone deacetylase 9 (HDAC9) governs the proliferation of glomerular mesangial cells in the context of immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) and to identify novel targets for clinical research on IgAN.
Methods: Data from high-throughput RNA sequencing for IgAN were procured from the Gene Expression Omnibus database to assess the expression profiles and clinical diagnostic significance of histone deacetylase family proteins (HDACs). Blood samples from 20 IgAN patients were employed in RT-qPCR analysis, and the spearman linear regression method was utilized to analyze the clinical correlation.

A 63-year-old Japanese housewife was admitted to our hospital because of hematuria and proteinuria lasting for 3 months. At the age of 59 years, she was diagnosed with neurosarcoidosis at another hospital, and she received oral glucocorticoid therapy for 1 year. Her serum angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and 1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D levels were elevated.
