The use of fixed-angle locking metaphyseal plate and screw constructs for articular and periarticular injuries has become commonplace. Given the restraints of bone stock in the epiphyseal region or possibly with misplacement of the plate, the use of these fixed-angle devices may produce varus or valgus malalignment. The described surgical technique entails the use of washers to elevate the plate from one end of the diaphyseal bone segment, thereby correcting potential varus or valgus.

Introduction: Extraarticular deformity (EAD) with knee arthritis is a complex condition involving tri-planar bone deformity with pathological malalignment and chronic soft tissue contracture or laxity in the knee joint. Intraarticular correction by TKA, which was previously performed with conventional manual jig by mechanical alignment technique, had its limits and difficulties especially extensive soft tissue release and risk of jeopardizing the collateral ligaments. Robotic technology allows for reproducible and precise execution of surgical plan and allows adjustment to various new personalised alignment philosophy including functional alignment (FA).

Background: This study aimed to (1) determine the association between varus knee deformity and ipsilateral foot and ankle morphology, and (2) evaluate the relationship between varus knee deformity and foot and ankle pain in patients with end-stage varus knee osteoarthritis (KOA).
Methods: A total of 213 patients who underwent primary total knee arthroplasty for end-stage varus KOA were enrolled in this study and divided into a 'severe varus group' (n = 119) and a 'mild varus group' (n = 94) based on preoperative knee varus degree. Morphological parameters and pain incidence in the foot and ankle were compared between the two groups.
