Defective Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator Accelerates Skeletal Muscle Aging by Impairing Autophagy/Myogenesis.

J Cachexia Sarcopenia Muscle

February 2025

Musculoskeletal Research Laboratory, Department of Orthopedics & Traumatology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China.

Background: Regenerative capacity of skeletal muscles decreases with age. Deficiency in cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) is associated with skeletal muscle weakness as well as epithelial cell senescence. However, whether and how CFTR plays a role in skeletal muscle regeneration and aging were unclear.

TRPC6 suppresses liver fibrosis by inhibiting hepatic stellate cell activation via CaMK4-CREB pathway.

Br J Pharmacol

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Natural Medicines and Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory for TCM Evaluation and Translational Research, School of Traditional Chinese Pharmacy, China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing, China.

Background And Purpose: Genetic ablation or inhibition of the cation channel TRPC6 is protective against renal, cardiac and intestinal fibrosis. However, TRPC6 expression is decreased in patients with liver diseases. Here, we explored the role of TRPC6 in liver fibrosis and the underlying mechanism.

A Dual-Pipeline Lactate Removal Strategy to Reverse Vascular Hyperpermeability for the Management of Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Sepsis.

Adv Healthc Mater

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Separation Membranes and Membrane Processes & Key Laboratory of Hollow Fiber Membrane Materials and Membrane Processes (MOE) & Tianjin Key Laboratory of Hollow Fiber Membrane Materials and Processes, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tiangong University, Tianjin, 300387, P. R. China.

Sepsis is an underappreciated yet severe threat to human life, marked by organ dysfunction and high mortality resulting from disordered inflammatory responses to blood infection. Unfortunately, no specific drugs are available for effective sepsis treatment. As a pivotal biomarker for sepsis, lactate levels are closely related to vascular permeability and sepsis-associated mortality.

Lung ischemia reperfusion injury (LIRI) represents an evitable but significant pathologic complication post pulmonary transplantation. Dexmedetomidine (Dex) that is extensively applied as an anesthetic adjuvant in the intensive care setting has increasingly presented outstandingly protective effect on LIRI. This article concerns the elaborate role of Dex in ferroptosis after LIRI and the correlative downstream mechanism.

Renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a prevalent cause of acute kidney injury, however, the regulatory mechanisms of miR-374b-5p in renal IRI remain poorly understood. We established hypoxia/reoxidation (H/R)-induced renal injury models using HK-2 and TCMK-1 cells, as well as an ischemia-reperfusion (I/R)-induced mouse model. Renal tubular epithelial cells (RTECs) viability and apoptosis were assessed using CCK-8, flow cytometry, and TUNEL assays.
