Methods based on genetic distance matrices usually lose information during the process of tree-building by converting a multi-dimensional matrix into a phylogenetic tree. We applied a heuristic method of two-dimensional presentation to achieve a better resolution of the relationship between breeds and individuals investigated. Four hundred and nine individuals from nine German dog breed populations and one free-living wolf population were analysed with a marker set of 23 microsatellites. The result of the two-dimensional presentation was partly comparable with and complemented a model-based analysis that uses genotype patterns. The assignment test and the neighbour-joining tree based on allele sharing estimate allocated 99% and 97% of the individuals according to their breed, respectively. The application of the two-dimensional presentation to distances on the basis of the proportion of shared alleles resulted in comparable and further complementary insight into inferred population structure by multilocus genotype data. We expect that the inference of population structure in domesticated species with complex breeding histories can be strongly supported by the two-dimensional presentation based on the described heuristic method.

The accurate estimation of the temperature distribution of the GaN based power devices and optimization of the device structure is of great significance to possibly solve the self-heating problem, which hinders the further enhancement of the device performances. We present here the operando temperature measurement with high spatial resolution using Raman spectroscopy of AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) with different device structures and explore the optimization of the device thermal design accordingly. The lateral and depth temperature distributions of the single-finger HEMT were characterized.

A superresolution (SR) method for the reconstruction of Navier-Stokes (NS) flows from noisy observations is presented. In the SR method, first the observation data are averaged over a coarse grid to reduce the noise at the expense of losing resolution and, then, a dynamic observer is employed to reconstruct the flow field by reversing back the lost information. We provide a theoretical analysis, which indicates a chaos synchronization of the SR observer with the reference NS flow.

Detailed atomic-scale understanding is a crucial prerequisite for rational design of next-generation single-atom catalysts (SACs). However, the sub-ångström precision needed for systematic studies is challenging to achieve on common SACs. Here, we present a two-dimensional (2D) metal-organic system featuring Fe-N single-atom sites, where the metal-organic structure is modulated by 0.

Molecular scale information is needed to understand ions coordination to mineral surfaces and consequently to accelerate the design of improved adsorbents. The present work reports on the use of two-dimensional correlation Fourier Transform infra-red spectroscopy (2D-COS-FTIR) and hetero 2D-COS-FTIR- X-ray diffraction (XRD) to probe the mechanism of Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solutions by activated carbon (AC) and its composite with PWO (AC-composite). The adsorption data at an initial Cr(VI) concentration of 320 mg L (320 ppm) revealed maximum adsorption capacities of 65 mg g for AC and 73 mg g for AC-composite, corresponding to removal percentages of 83 % and 94 %, respectively.

In this study, we analytically derive the expressions for the centroid shifts of spatiotemporal vortex pulses by applying the Fresnel-Snell formulas to each plane wave in the incident spatiotemporal vortex pulse spectrum. We demonstrate that the longitudinal shifts are correlated with the angular shifts, and thus, both are subject to resonant enhancement in the vicinity of the Brewster angle.
