Background: Fungal pretreatment for partial separation of lignocellulosic components may reduce lignocellulose recalcitrance during the production of biofuels and biochemicals. Quantitative and qualitative modification of plant lignin through genetic engineering or traditional breeding may also reduce the recalcitrance. This study was conducted to examine the effects of combining these two approaches using three white rot fungi and mulberry wood with an altered lignin structure.

Background: Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is a leading risk factor for stillbirth, yet the diagnosis of FGR confers considerable prognostic uncertainty, as most infants with FGR do not experience any morbidity. Our objective was to use data from a large, deeply phenotyped observational obstetric cohort to develop a probabilistic graphical model (PGM), a type of "explainable artificial intelligence (AI)", as a potential framework to better understand how interrelated variables contribute to perinatal morbidity risk in FGR.

Methods: Using data from 9,558 pregnancies delivered at ≥ 20 weeks with available outcome data, we derived and validated a PGM using randomly selected sub-cohorts of 80% (n = 7645) and 20% (n = 1,912), respectively, to discriminate cases of FGR resulting in composite perinatal morbidity from those that did not.

Objective: Bacterial gastroenteritis is a significant public health concern, capable of causing severe infections. Among the various pathogens involved, those belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family are the most frequently isolated and associated with gastrointestinal disorders. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of common diarrheagenic Enterobacteriaceae in Iran over the past two decades, from 2000 to 2023.

A high-calorie diet and lack of exercise are the most important risk factors contributing to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) initiation and progression. The precise molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial function alteration during MASLD development remain to be fully elucidated. In this study, a total of 60 male C57BL/6J mice were maintained on a normal or amylin liver NASH (AMLN) diet for 6 or 10 weeks.

Prostate cancer presents a major health issue, with its progression influenced by intricate molecular factors. Notably, the interplay between miRNAs and changes in transcriptomic patterns is not fully understood. Our study seeks to bridge this knowledge gap, employing computational techniques to explore how miRNAs and transcriptomic alterations jointly regulate the development of prostate cancer.
