In this modeling study we wanted to find out why bats of the family Vespertilionidae (and probably also members of other families of bats) use pulses with a certain bandwidth and duration. Previous studies have only speculated on the function of bandwidth and pulse duration in bat echolocation or addressed this problem by assuming that bats optimize echolocation parameters to achieve very fine acuities in receiving single echoes. Here, we take a different approach by assuming that bats in nature rarely receive single echoes from each pulse emission, but rather many highly overlapping echoes. Some echolocation tasks require individual echoes to be separated to reconstruct reflection points in space. We used an established hearing model to investigate how the parameters bandwidth and pulse duration influence the separation of overlapping echoes. Our findings corroborate the following previously unknown or unsubstantiated facts: 1. Broadening the bandwidth improves the bat's lower resolution limit. 2. Increasing the sweep rate (defined by bandwidth and pulse duration) improves acuity of each extracted echo. 3. Decreasing the sweep rate improves the probability of frequency channels being activated. Since facts 2 and 3 affect sweep rate in an opposing fashion, an optimum sweep rate will exist, depending on the quality of the returning echoes and the requirements of the bat to improve acuity. The existence of an optimal sweep rate explains why bats are likely to use certain combinations of bandwidth and pulse duration to obtain such sweep rates.

Although the fatigue properties of asphalt materials have been extensively studied, the relationship between the rheological properties and road performance of asphalt mixtures remains underexplored. In this study, we have examined the relaxation properties of asphalt binders through relaxation tests conducted on asphalt and its mastic under different conditions. A repeated stress relaxation-recovery test is designed for assessing both the relaxation and elastic properties, and a set of reasonable test parameters is recommended, thereby establishing a novel test method for measuring the relaxation and elastic behaviors of asphalt.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of 's subcutaneous needling based on "multi-joint muscle spiral balance chain" theory for cervical vertigo (CV) and its effect on blood flow velocity of vertebral artery.
Methods: A total of 60 patients with CV were randomized into a Fu's subcutaneous needling group and a medication group, 30 cases in each one. In the Fu's subcutaneous needling group, 's subcutaneous needling was delivered at Dazhui (GV14), the flexible tube was retained for 5 min after sweeping manipulation, and the treatment was given once every other day, 3 times a week for 3 weeks.
Isostructural Dy(III) and Er(III) complexes [L12Ln(H2O)5][I]3·L12·(CH2Cl2) (Ln = Dy (1), Er (3)) and [L22Ln(H2O)5][I]3·L22·(CH2Cl2)2 (Ln = Dy (2), Er (4)), with distorted pentagonal bipyramidal geometry (D5h) around the central metal were synthesized by utilizing two bulky phosphonamide ligands, adamantyl phosphonamide, (Ad)P(O)(NHiPr)2 (L1) and carbazolyl phosphoramide (Cz)P(O)(NHiPr)2 (L2). The resultant complexes were investigated for their magnetic properties in order to elucidate the impact of modification of the coordinating P-O bond environment either by increasing steric bulk and/or introduction of a third P-N bond at the central phosphorus atom. Magnetic studies revealed substantial energy barriers (Ueff) of 640 K and 560 K for Dy compounds 1 and 2, respectively, rendering them as some of the best-performing air-stable SIMs amongst the class of SIMs with D5h symmetry.

Traditional sprayers are limited to applying spray mixture solely to the upper surfaces of crops. To overcome this limitation, a variable angle spraying machine (VASM) was designed using a linkage system. This machine enables the adjustment of both the spray position and angle through a single input signal, facilitating multi-directional spraying from the top to the bottom of crops.
