The measurement of the nucleoside deaminases--cytidine deaminase, guanosine deaminase and adenosine deaminase--by reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography is reviewed. The clinical value of assaying the enzyme activity is discussed for each of these enzymes. Both cytidine deaminase and adenosine deaminase measurements have proven clinical value, although the use of the assay of cytidine deaminase in the diagnosis of pre-eclampsia is probably not helpful.

Adenosine-to-Inosine (A-to-I) RNA editing is the most prevalent type of RNA editing, in which adenosine within a completely or largely double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) is converted to inosine by deamination. RNA editing was shown to be involved in many neurological diseases and cancer; therefore, detection of A-to-I RNA editing and quantitation of editing levels are necessary for both basic and clinical biomedical research. While high-throughput sequencing (HTS) is widely used for global detection of editing events, Sanger sequencing is the method of choice for precise characterization of editing site clusters (hyper-editing) and for comparing levels of editing at a particular site under different environmental conditions, developmental stages, genetic backgrounds, or disease states.

: While depression is associated with an increased risk of Alzheimer's dementia (AD), traditional AD-related biomarkers, such as amyloid-beta, have shown limited predictive value for late-life depression. Oxidative stress has emerged as a potential indicator given its shared role in both depression and dementia. This study investigated the longitudinal relationship between oxidative stress biomarkers and risk of dementia in patients with depression.

Objective: To investigate the effect of capecitabine on the sensitivity of oxaliplatin and on the level of transcription factor forkhead box P1 (FOXP1) and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) in patients with intermediate and advanced gastric cancer.
Methods: A total of 152 Patients with advanced gastric cancer who were continuously diagnosed and treated in our hospital were selected as the study objects. The general data were retrospectively analyzed.

Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is an endogenous gasotransmitter with cardioprotective and antiviral effects. In this work, new cysteine-selective nucleoside-HS-donor hybrid molecules were prepared by conjugating nucleoside biomolecules with a thiol-activatable dithioacetyl group. 5'-Dithioacetate derivatives were synthesized from the canonical nucleosides (uridine, adenosine, cytidine, guanosine and thymidine), and the putative 5'-thio metabolites were also produced from uridine and adenosine.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and chronic kidney disease are global public health issues associated with high morbidity and mortality. Both diseases are also interlinked. Little is known about the meaning of NAFLD in hemodialysis (HD) patients.
