Many maternal and neonatal deaths and stillbirths can be avoided if quality of care is improved. The South African National Department of Health implemented a multi-partner quality improvement (QI) programme between 2018 and 2022, in 21 facilities, with the aim to reduce maternal and perinatal mortality. We conducted a qualitative evaluation to explore QI team members' perceptions of the factors shaping variation in team performance.

Small for gestational age (SGA) infants affected by placental insufficiency are exposed to the risk of stillbirth and long-term complications. Based on RNA-seq and mass spectrometry, we identified dysregulated RNAs and proteins from the comparisons of SGA placental tissues and controls. We revealed two SGA-relevant co-expression modules (SRMs) that also significantly distinguished SGA from controls.

Background: Obesity is a risk factor for stillbirth and perinatal death and is often accompanied by chronic hypertension; however, there are few studies on the relationship between pre-pregnancy BMI and gestational age (GA)-specific rates of stillbirth and perinatal death in women with chronic hypertension.
Objective: The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between pre-pregnancy BMI and GA-specific risk of stillbirth and perinatal death in the presence/absence of chronic hypertension.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of all singleton births in the United States in 2016-17.

Wesselsbron virus (WSLV) is a zoonotic, mosquito-borne orthoflavivirus endemic to sub-Saharan Africa, causing abortions and stillbirths in small ruminants. The life cycle of WSLV involves Aedes mosquitoes and various wildlife and domestic animals. Seminal studies in the 1950s have shown the zoonotic potential of WSLV, notably in accidental infections of laboratory workers exposed to infected material.
