Background: The relationship between age-related eye diseases and the subsequent risk of dementia and depressive disorders remains inconsistent. Furthermore, the effects on anxiety disorders and sleep disorders have been underexplored. This study aims to comprehensively examine the impact of age-related eye diseases on common mental disorders in older adults, thereby enhancing our understanding of the mental health implications in these conditions.

Background: The post-operative evaluation of trabeculectomy blebs has traditionally relied on subjective clinical grading systems performed at the slit-lamp. This study explores the use of swept source anterior-segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) to objectively measure bleb internal reflectivity and morphology, and to distinguish blebs with surgical success vs. failure.

Pseudoexfoliation glaucoma is a severe form of secondary open angle glaucoma and is associated with activation of the TGF-β pathway by TGF-β1. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNA species that are involved in regulation of mRNA expression and translation. To investigate what glaucomatous changes occur in the trabecular meshwork and how these changes may be regulated by miRNAs, we performed a bioinformatics analysis resulting in a miRNA-mRNA interactome.

Background: The long-term patterns in first-line glaucoma medication are not well established. Exploring these in longitudinal and population-based settings would provide information for the healthcare systems to plan glaucoma care accordingly.
Objective: To evaluate patterns in first-line glaucoma monotherapy in Finland during 1995-2019 based on nationwide survey and register data.
