Cannabidiol (CBD) is widely used to alleviate the syndromes of epilepsy. However, the marketed oral CBD formulation has the prominent first-pass effect. Here, a cannabidiol-loaded hollow suppository (CHS) was developed using three-dimensional (3D) printing technology.

A Challenging Case of Recurrent Ogilvie Syndrome: Exploring Causes and Treatment Modalities.

Case Rep Gastrointest Med

December 2024

Department of Cardiology, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University, Augusta, Georgia, USA.

Acute colonic pseudo-obstruction (ACPO), or Ogilvie syndrome, is a rare condition marked by significant colon distention without mechanical obstruction. Symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting, and an inability to pass gas or stool. Although common in males over 60, we report a challenging case of a 44-year-old man from Africa with recurrent abdominal distention and discomfort.

Development, and evaluation of film forming solutions for transdermal drug delivery of Zaltoprofen.

J Biomater Sci Polym Ed

December 2024

Department of Pharmaceutics, Dr. Prabhakar B Kore Basic Science Research Center, Off-campus, KLE College of Pharmacy (A constituent unit of KAHER-Belagavi), Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

Zaltoprofen (ZAL) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with a short half-life (∼2.8 h) due to extensive first pass metabolism. In this context, 16 different polymeric film forming solutions (PFFS) of ZAL were developed using different grades of Eudragits, Polyvinylpyrrolidones, Kollicoat MAE 100 P and Hydroxypropyl cellulose as film formers, and polyethylene glycol 400 as a plasticizer in equal parts of ethanol and isopropyl alcohol used as solvents.

Switching CO-to-Acetate Electroreduction on Cu Atomic Ensembles.

J Am Chem Soc

Beijing National Laboratory for Molecular Sciences, Key Laboratory of Colloid and Interface and Thermodynamics, Center for Carbon Neutral Chemistry Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100190, China.

The electrocatalytic reaction pathway is highly dependent on the intrinsic structure of the catalyst. CO/CO electroreduction has recently emerged as a potential approach for obtaining C products, but it is challenging to achieve high selectivity for a single C product. Herein, we develop a Cu atomic ensemble that satisfies the appropriate site distance and coordination environment required for electrocatalytic CO-to-acetate conversion, which shows outstanding overall performance with an acetate Faradaic efficiency of 70.

Optical filters are essential components for a variety of applicative fields, such as communications, chemical analysis and optical signal processing. This article describes the preparation and characterization of a new optical filter made of polyvinyl alcohol and incremental amounts of crystal violet. By using distinct solvents (HO, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and HO) to obtain the dyed polymer films, new insights were gained into the pathway that underlies the possibility of tailoring the material's optical performance.
