Miniaturized mass spectrometers offer significant potential for in situ analysis due to their high specificity and portability. In traditional data-dependent acquisition (DDA) mode, precursor ions for tandem analysis are selected based on the full-scan mass spectrum. However, in situ applications often require the direct analysis of complex samples without extensive sample pretreatment, making them susceptible to chemical noise that can result in false negatives.

Since the 1990s, the Pacific oyster has faced significant mortality, which has been associated with the detection of the Ostreid Herpesvirus type 1 (OsHV-1). Due to the complex genomic architecture and the presence of multiple genomic isomers, short-read sequencing using Illumina method struggles to accurately assemble tandem and repeat regions and to identify and characterize large structural variations in the OsHV-1 genome. Third-generation sequencing technologies, as long-read real-time nanopore sequencing from Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT), offer new possibilities for OsHV-1 whole-genome analysis.

Foodborne diseases are a significant cause of morbidity (600 million cases) and mortality (420,000 deaths) worldwide every year and are mainly associated with pathogens. Besides the direct effects on human health, they have relevant concerns related to financial, logistics, and infrastructure for the food and medical industries. The standard pathogen identification techniques usually require a sample enrichment step, plating, isolation, and biochemical tests.

Microplastic (MP) pollution poses serious environmental and public health concerns, requiring efficient detection methods. Conventional techniques have the limitations of labor-intensive workflows and complex instrumentation, hindering rapid on-site field analysis. Here, we present the Machine learning (ML)-Integrated Droplet-based REal-time Analysis of MP (MiDREAM) system.

Luminescent lanthanide compounds stand out for their distinctive characteristics including narrow emission bands, substantial Stokes shifts, high quantum yields, and unique luminescent colors. However, Ln is highly susceptible to vibrational quenching from X-H (X = O/N) high-energy oscillators in the embedded organic antenna, resulting in significant nonradiative energy dissipation of the D excited states of Ln. Herein, we introduce a strategy based on supramolecular interactions to modulate the nonradiative transitions in a new Zn-Tb heterometallic compound, [ZnTb(HL)(NO)Cl]·2CHCN·HO (), based on a phenyl-substituted pyrazolinone-modified salicylamide-imide ligand ().
