Background: This study investigates the effectiveness and safety of aripiprazole oral solution in Chinese patients with schizophrenia.

Methods: This was a multicenter, single-arm phase IV study involving 134 patients in China in the acute stage of schizophrenia from May 2021 to July 2022. The patients received aripiprazole oral solution 10 - 30 mg/d for 12 weeks.

Dopamine receptor antagonists like metoclopramide are frequently used in a variety of clinical contexts to treat gastrointestinal disorders and control nausea and vomiting. However, it is associated with a high incidence of extrapyramidal side effects (EPS) in children, including dystonic movements and torticollis. This is the instance of a 9-year-old girl who developed abnormal movements of the neck and tongue, along with torticollis, within 48 hours of receiving intravenous metoclopramide for gastroenteritis.

Cariprazine is one of the newer generation antipsychotics with dopamine receptor partial agonist activity which has been approved for management of schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder. It is known to have lesser propensity to cause extrapyramidal adverse effects due to D2 and D3 partial agonism.
