The rotational spectra of the complexes between one trifluoroacetic acid molecule and up to three water molecules have been recorded using a pulsed nozzle Fourier transform microwave spectrometer. The unambiguous assignments of them are made on the basis of the agreement between the experimentally determined rotational constants and the theoretical predictions from ab initio calculations using MP2/6-311++G(2df,2pd). All the complexes exhibit hydrogen-bonded ring structures. The fine splittings observed in some of the a-type transitions of the trifluoroacetic acid-H2O dimer were analyzed in terms of the likely tunneling motions of the hydrogens in the H2O molecule. Further calculations of the equilibrium constants for these three hydrated complexes of trifluoroacetic acid were also made to evaluate their fractions against the trifluoroacetic acid monomer in the atmosphere.

Electrospun nanofiber scaffolds have become vital in biomedical applications due to their high surface area and tunable properties. Chitosan (CS) is widely used, but its rapid degradation limits its effectiveness. This study addresses this limitation by blending CS with polycaprolactone (PCL) and applying genipin cross-linking to enhance its stability and mechanical properties.

Pyranoflavylium cations are synthetic analogues of pyranoanthocyanins, the much more color-stable compounds that are formed spontaneously from grape anthocyanins during the maturation of red wines. In the present work, our studies of the photophysical properties of pyranoanthocyanin analogues are extended to include nine pyranoflavylium cations substituted with one or two bromo and/or iodo heavy atoms. The room temperature fluorescence, 77 K fluorescence and phosphorescence, triplet formation in solution, and sensitized singlet oxygen formation, with excited state acidity suppressed by the addition of trifluoroacetic acid, are compared to those of similar pyranoflavylium cations that do not contain a heavy atom.

Although trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is not typically considered a Hofmeister reagent, it has been demonstrated to modulate biocoacervation. We show that TFA can be employed to probe specific interactions in coacervating bioinspired peptide phenylalanine (Phe) F-labeled at a single site, altering its liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) behavior. Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy revealed two dynamically distinct binding modes of TFA with Phe, resulting in a structured, dipolar-ordered complex and a more dynamic complex, highlighting the proximity between TFA and Phe.

We report a step-economic strategy for the direct synthesis of novel polycyclic -heterocycle-fused naphthoquinones by merging intramolecular oxidative coupling and cascade [4 + 2] cycloaddition. In the protocol, mechanistic investigations suggest that the cascade reaction involves the intermediate spiro polycyclic -heterocycles and [4 + 2] cycloaddition processes. This protocol is featured with moderate to excellent yields, wide substrate scope, and divergent structures of products.
