Endothelial signaling by Ig-like cell adhesion molecules.

The migration of leukocytes across the endothelial lining of the vascular wall requires a complicated series of adhesion and signaling events. Endothelial Ig-like cell adhesion molecules (IgCAMs) such as intercellular adhesion molecule-1 play an important role, not only as ligands for leukocyte integrins, but also as signaling initiators. Clustering these IgCAMs triggers a wide range of events in the endothelial cells' interior, of which activation of Rho-like GTPases, induction of cytoskeletal changes, and the transient modulation of cell-cell contact are key events. This review discusses recent insights into this IgCAM-driven endothelial signaling and its consequences for leukocyte transendothelial migration.

Tripterygium wilfordii (TW), which has severe hepatotoxicity, is commonly used as anti-rheumatism. Using the juice of auxiliary herbs in concocting poisonous herbs is a conventional method for toxicity reduction or efficacy enhancement. Traditional Chinese Pharmacy textbooks record that Spatholobi Caulis (SC) can alleviate the side effects caused by TW and also possesses excellent hepatoprotective effect.

This study aimed to develop novel hydrogels using polycaprolactone (PCL), nano-silver (Ag), and linalool (Lin) to address the challenge of increasing antimicrobial resistance in healing infected wounds. The hydrogels' morphological properties, in vitro release profiles, antibacterial efficacy, and safety were investigated. E-selectin (CD62E) is an adhesion molecule expressed on the surface of endothelial cells (ECs) and its level increases significantly upon the stimulation of ECs by inflammatory factors. Quantitative analysis of CD62E is of great importance to early diagnosis and treatment of vascular diseases and hypertension. A new method for the determination of CD62E was developed using a portable pH meter in this work.

Background: Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) often results from neuroinflammation. Recent studies have shown that brain platelet-derived growth factor receptor β (PDGFRβ) cells, including pericytes, may act as early sensors of infection by secreting monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), which transmits inflammatory signals to the central nervous system. The erythroblast transformation-specific (ETS) transcription factor Friend leukemia virus integration 1 (Fli-1) plays a critical role in inflammation by regulating the expression of key cytokines, including MCP-1.
