Background: Mammalian metallothioneins (MTs) play a crucial role in maintaining Zn(II) and Cu(I) homeostasis, as well as regulating the cellular redox potential. They are involved in cancer resistance to cisplatin-related drugs and the sequestration of toxic metal ions. To investigate their participation in specific physiological and pathological processes, it is imperative to develop an analytical method for measuring changes in protein concentration both in vitro and in vivo.

Background: DNA methylation catalyzed by various DNA methyltransferases (DNA MTases) is one of the important epigenetic regulations in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. Therefore, the detection of DNA MTase activity is a vital target and direction in the study of methylation-related diseases.
Results: In this study, an ultrasensitive and robust strategy was developed for DNA MTase activity sensing based on bifunctional probe propelling multipath strand displacement amplification and CRISPR/Cas12a techniques.

Mercury (II) ions (Hg) are a significant source of heavy metal contamination in groundwater, posing a serious threat to human health and the environment. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the development of a new detection technique with high sensitivity for monitoring Hg in contaminated groundwater. Here, we developed a signal amplifying MOF-based probe (NXS@ZIF-8) for on-site and ultrasensitive dual-channel portable detection of Hg in groundwater.
