Background: The urine volume and urine specific gravity per unit time during a short operation under volume loading were examined to explore the possibility of urine specific gravity as an indirect index of fluid therapy.
Methods: After introducing anesthesia, under volume loading with acetic acid Ringer solution 10 ml x kg(-1) x hr(-1), urine volume and specific gravity per unit time at 30 min intervals from urination to 90 min later and the correlation between the urine volume and urine specific gravity were examined. A chronological increase of urine specific gravity was also confirmed. Therefore, the values of urine specific gravity of each 30 minute intervals were compared using Student's t-test.
Results: The urine volume and urine specific gravity per unit time showed no significant negative correlation until after 90 min. Increasing urine specific gravity even under volume loading became significant 90 min after urination.
Conclusions: There is a possibility of employing urine specific gravity as an indirect index of fluid therapy.

The subjective visual vertical (VV), the visually estimated direction of gravity, is essential for assessing vestibular function and visuospatial cognition. In this study, we aimed to investigate the mechanisms underlying altered VV perception in stroke participants with unilateral spatial neglect (USN), specifically by examining their eye movement patterns during VV judgment tasks. Participants with USN demonstrated limited eye movement scanning along a rotating bar, often fixating on prominent ends, such as the top or bottom.

Understanding the impact of gravity on daily upper-limb movements is crucial for comprehending upper-limb impairments. This study investigates the relationship between gravitational force and upper-limb mobility by analyzing hand trajectories from 24 healthy subjects performing nine pick-and-place tasks, captured using a motion capture system. The results reveal significant differences in motor behavior in terms of planning, smoothness, efficiency, and accuracy when movements are performed against or with gravity.

Background: Although gut-derived uremic toxins are increased in azotemic chronic kidney disease (CKD) in cats and implicated in disease progression, it remains unclear if augmented formation or retention of these toxins is associated with the development of renal azotemia.
Objectives: Assess the association between gut-derived toxins (ie, indoxyl-sulfate, p-cresyl-sulfate, and trimethylamine-N-oxide [TMAO]) and the onset of azotemic CKD in cats.
Animals: Forty-eight client-owned cats.

Rock aggregates have been extensively exploited in the construction sector, and the associated engineering features play a critical role in their application. The main aim of this research is to assess the impact of petrographic characteristics on the engineering properties of carbonate rocks. A total of 45 carbonate rock samples from different geological formations within the Salt Range (Western Himalayan Ranges, Pakistan) were subjected to comprehensive petrographic analyses and standard aggregate quality control tests.

This study investigated a composite material combining epoxy with hybrid jute (J) and glass (G) fibers. A straightforward and effective fabrication method was employed, utilizing five layers with various reinforcement materials. To identify the optimal combination, a comprehensive series of tests were conducted using a range of characterization instruments, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Universal Testing Machine (UTM), pendulum impact tester, density measurement, specific gravity evaluation, water absorption, and swelling thickness tests.
