alpha-klotho was identified as a gene associated with premature aging-like phenotypes characterized by short lifespan. In mice, we found the molecular association of alpha-Klotho (alpha-Kl) and Na+,K+-adenosine triphosphatase (Na+,K+-ATPase) and provide evidence for an increase of abundance of Na+,K+-ATPase at the plasma membrane. Low concentrations of extracellular free calcium ([Ca2+]e) rapidly induce regulated parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion in an alpha-Kl- and Na+,K+-ATPase-dependent manner. The increased Na+ gradient created by Na+,K+-ATPase activity might drive the transepithelial transport of Ca2+ in cooperation with ion channels and transporters in the choroid plexus and the kidney. Our findings reveal fundamental roles of alpha-Kl in the regulation of calcium metabolism.

This study examines α-klotho levels in depressed American adults and their association with cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality, utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007-2016) and mortality details from the National Death Index up to December 31, 2019. Including 3329 participants with depression, findings revealed 485 all-cause and 113 cardiovascular deaths. To investigate the nonlinear association between α-klotho and mortality, the Cox proportional hazards regression model, restricted cubic splines, and two-piecewise Cox proportional hazards model were developed.

A longevity factor α-Klotho has been shown to be neuroprotective and enhance brain function. However, it has not been elucidated whether α-Klotho is involved in the embryonic brain development. To address this, we investigated whether α-Klotho regulates embryonic neural stem cell proliferation and differentiation.

Background: Klotho, which is known to negatively regulate metabolic disorders and kidney disease, has a role in gout that remains unclear. This research explored how klotho levels correlate with the prevalence of gout.
Methods: Participants aged 40 to 79 from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007-2016) were examined in both lines.

Background: Naringin has demonstrated various neuroprotective effects; however, its anti-inflammatory and cognitive properties, particularly through the regulation of HMGB1-TLR4 and Klotho, have not been explored in the context of epilepsy.
Method: Kindling was induced in Swiss albino mice by administering pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) 25 mg/kg intraperitoneally (i.p.

Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) is a phosphaturic hormone, discovery of which has transformed our understanding of mineral regulation in healthy mammals, including the cat. It is produced by osteoblasts and osteocytes and its prime role is to regulate phosphate entry into extracellular fluid (from bone and via the gut) and its excretion via the kidney. It interacts with other hormones (calcitriol and parathyroid hormone), inhibiting their activation and secretion respectively and so impacts on calcium as well as phosphate homeostasis.
