Possibility of prevention of atrial fibrillation in patients with permanent pacemakers was analyzed taking into account induction mechanisms. Patients with bradicardiac and ectopic mechanisms of atrial fibrillation induction seem to be optimal candidates for pacemaker therapy. Right ventricular pacing was an independent predictor of arrhythmic events.

Background: Dabigatran etexilate (DABE), a prodrug of dabigatran (DAB), is a direct thrombin inhibitor used to prevent ischemic stroke and thromboembolism during atrial fibrillation. The effect of genetic polymorphisms on its metabolism, particularly , has not been extensively explored in humans. This study aimed to investigate the effects of , , and polymorphisms on the pharmacokinetics of DAB and its acylglucuronide metabolites in healthy subjects.

The Cox-Maze IV (CMIV) procedure is the mainstay in surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF), but the rate of AF recurrence after the CMIV procedure in patients with persistent AF is difficult to accurately evaluate. In this study, we aimed to develop and validate a risk prediction model of AF recurrence within 1 year after undergoing the Cox-Maze IV procedure. We retrospectively enrolled 303 consecutive patients who underwent the Cox-Maze IV procedure for persistent AF concomitant with other cardiac procedures at our institute between 2019 and 2021.

Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) with cryoballoon (CB) ablation technology is widely used to treat drug-resistant atrial fibrillation (AF). During CB ablation, there is a possibility of forming an ice cap of contrast-color on top of the balloon. If automatic balloon deflate occurs before the ice cap dissolves, embolization to the systemic circulation is possible.

Background: Pericardial complications following cardiac surgery are common and debilitating, significantly impacting patients' survival. We performed this network meta-analysis to identify the most effective and safest preventions and treatments for pericardial complications following cardiac surgery.
Methods: We systematically searched PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane CENTRAL from inception to 22 January 2024.

Stroke is one of the most common causes of disability in older adults. It remains a common cause of death and permanent functional limitation in individuals who are older than 80 years. Approximately 50% of all strokes occur in people over the age of 75, and 30% in those over 85.
