Intraorbital foreign bodies (IOFBs) are a recognised complication of orbital trauma, but intraorbital wooden foreign bodies are rare and pose significant diagnostic and management challenges due to their radiolucency, high risk of infection and potential for severe inflammation. This case describes a rare presentation of a young boy who sustained orbital trauma after an 8-foot fall, resulting in a 5 cm × 3 cm wooden IOFB extending to the orbital apex with an associated sphenoid fracture. He presented with proptosis, an inferotemporal scleral indentation mimicking retinal detachment and a lateral infraorbital laceration.

Sharing New Approach Methodology (NAM)-based regulatory experiences is crucial for improving human risk assessment and reducing animal use in drug safety testing. To foster broader adoption, the Biotechnology Innovation Organization surveyed companies about NAM usage and collected case studies showcasing NAM-based regulatory filings for biotherapeutics, where NAMs replaced large animal studies for safety assessment. These scientifically justified approaches were generally accepted by global health authorities, particularly in the context of species relevance limitations, prior target modulation experience, and/or when addressing severe disease.

Sewage sludge (or biosolids) produced during wastewater treatment contain significant amounts of phosphorus. Pyrolysis treatment can produce a safe material while sequestering carbon; however, it underutilises the phosphorus in the resulting biochar, leaving it partially inaccessible to plants. Here the effect of doping calcium-rich sewage sludge (14% calcium) with potassium acetate, combustion wood ash and its water-extract on phosphorus availability, and carbon and nitrogen release during pyrolysis are investigated at 500 and 700°C.
