Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is a very effective method in the treatment of dehiscent, infected, and non-healing wounds. Difficult wound healing occurs especially in late pregnancy due to the rapid enlargement of the uterus and the constantly increasing tension of the entire abdominal wall. In cases of dehiscence of the surgical wound during pregnancy, proper subsequent treatment is needed, where it is necessary to consider the safety of the mother as well as the fetus.

Background: Vacuum-assisted abdominal closure (VAC) is being increasingly used as an adjunctive procedure in the surgical treatment of secondary peritonitis. This study compared postoperative mortality and complication rates between VAC and primary abdominal closure (PAC).
Method: This retrospective chart review included all patients diagnosed with secondary peritonitis who underwent laparotomy between 2010 and 2019.

Background: Patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARD) are at increased risk of infection due to their impaired immune response, which also reduces vaccination efficacy. Although several studies have evaluated the serological response to SARS-CoV-2 mRNA-based vaccines in patients with ARD, limited information on immune responses to other vaccination platforms is available.
Aims: This observational prospective study aims to investigate the humoral immune response to different SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in patients with ARD.
Despite guideline recommendations, transfer rates to high-volume aortic centers (high-VACs) for acute type A aortic dissections (TAAD) remain suboptimal; this may be because the benefit of undergoing surgical repair of TAAD at high-VACs remains poorly quantified. Medicare beneficiaries undergoing surgical repair of TAAD from 1999-2019 were identified. Hospital and surgeon annual aortic case volumes in Medicare beneficiaries were determined.

Transient receptor potential channel 1 (TRPC1) is a widely expressed mechanosensitive ion channel located within the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, crucial for refilling depleted internal calcium stores during activation of calcium-dependent signaling pathways. Here, we demonstrate that TRPC1 activity is protective within cartilage homeostasis in the prevention of cellular senescence associated cartilage breakdown during mechanical and inflammatory challenge. We reveal that TRPC1 loss is associated with early stages of osteoarthritis (OA) and plays a non-redundant role in calcium signaling in chondrocytes.
