The authors investigated in patients with stable angina the influence of a single dose and of long-term administration of isosorbide dinitrate alone and combined with captopril. Administration of 40 mg Iso-Mack ret. every 8 hours for four weeks did not lead to the development of tolerance. However, captopril added to isosorbide dinitrate tends to improve the investigated indicators after a single dose as well as after long-term treatment. It is probable that concurrent administration of the two drugs causes addition of their vasodilatating action and thus the vascular resistance declines, as well as the cardiac pre-load and after-load and the oxygen consumption of the heart muscle. The authors discuss possible mechanisms of the increased vasodilatation after addition of captopril.

Objectives: This study assessed the electrocardiographic pattern and cardiac inflammatory response of doxorubicin-induced myocardial injury in Wistar rats treated with ethanol extract.

Methods: Female Wistar rats (190-200 g) were assigned into five groups of seven rats each. The Group 1 (Control group) was given rat chow and drinking water while the Group 2 (doxorubicin group) received intraperitoneal administration of doxorubicin (2 mg/kg) once weekly for three weeks.

Losartan is more effective than angiotensin (1-7) in preventing thyroxine-induced renal injury in the rat.

Thyroid Res

Department of Pharmacology, College of Medicine, Kuwait University, PO Box 24923, Safat, 13110, Kuwait.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how Angiotensin II (Ang II) contributes to kidney damage in hyperthyroid conditions induced by thyroxine (T4), and explores whether Ang 1-7 can provide protective benefits against this renal injury.
  • Experiments were conducted on adult rats divided into groups receiving different treatments, allowing for comparisons of kidney function and damage markers after 14 days.
  • Results showed that while thyroxine increased kidney size and protein excretion, treatments like losartan and captopril effectively mitigated these changes, but Ang 1-7 did not prevent kidney enlargement despite improving kidney filtration rate in T4-treated rats.

Prior investigation shows that diabetic patients present hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis hyperactivity related to impaired negative feedback. This study investigates the effect of Captopril on the overproduction of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and its precursor proopiomelanocortin (POMC) in the pituitary gland of male diabetic mice. Diabetes was induced by intravenous injection of alloxan into fasted Swiss-webster mice, and the animals were treated with Captopril for 14 consecutive days, starting 7 days post-diabetes induction.

In this research paper, a novel "signal on-off" ratiometric-based electrochemical platform was developed for the sensitive and selective detection of captopril. Ratiometric responses were achieved by fabricating molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) on the surface of a graphite electrode (GE) decorated with nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) co-doped porous carbon and silver nanoparticles (Ag). The MIP layer was formed electropolymerization of copper coordinated with pyrrole-3-carboxylic acid (functional monomer).

Chiral Amphiphilic Au Cluster and Its Specific Recognition to Remote Di-amines.

The atomic precision of metal nanoclusters and variability of surface ligands pave the way for their rational design and functionalization, whereas the property strengthening in multiple ways has been long challenging. Herein, improved amphiphilicity, chirality, thermostability, and strong CPL (circularly polarized luminescence) properties have been accomplished by facile ligand exchange of [Au(CHT)] with HCapt (HCHT and HCapt denote cyclohexanethiol and captopril). In addition, the obtained chiral [Au(SR)] (short for [Au(CHT)(Capt)]) clusters show specific binding affinity to remote-diamines (such as arginine and single/double strand DNA), originating from the hydrogen bonding and Van der Waals interaction among the surface Capt ligands and the di-amine groups.
