Cycling is a beneficial physical activity for rehabilitating individuals with lower-limb amputations and serves as a feasible leisure sport. However, the optimal bicycle configuration for cycling with a unilateral transtibial prosthesis at leisure levels has not been investigated. For saddle height at professional cycling levels, existing literature suggests utilizing the same configuration as that used by intact cyclists, where the knee reaches 25-35° at maximum extension.

This study aimed to evaluate changes in body temperature in athletic horses during two different road transport distances. Six Italian Saddle horses were subjected to a 100 and 300 km transport during different times of day (am and pm). Rectal and cutaneous temperatures were recorded before (T0), immediately (following 5 min- T1) and 1 hour (T2) after transport by means of a rectal digital thermometer and a thermal infrared camera (FLIR T440) respectively, for the evaluation of left and right side of four body regions: jugular, shoulder, croup and inner thigh.

Article Synopsis
  • * A retrospective study analyzed the effects of SLEG on patients undergoing septorhinoplasty, revealing significant improvements in nasal function as measured by the NOSE score and nasal geometry.
  • * Results indicated that SLEG, particularly when combined with turbinoplasty, led to notable enhancements in airway function, making it effective for East Asian patients with nasal deviations.

Non-IRC Mechanism of Bimolecular Reactions with Submerged Barriers: A Case Study of Si + HO Reaction.

J Phys Chem A

March 2024

Key Laboratory of Synthetic and Natural Functional Molecule of the Ministry of Education, College of Chemistry and Materials Science, Northwest University, 710127 Xi'an, P. R. China.

Chemical reactions with submerged barriers may feature interesting dynamic behaviors that are distinct from those with substantial barriers or those entirely dominated by capture. The Si + HO reaction is a prototypical example, involving even two submerged saddle points along the reaction path: one for the direct dissociation of H (H-dissociation SP) and another for H migration from the O-side to the Si-side (H-migration SP). We investigated the intricacies of this process by employing quasi-classical trajectory calculations on an accurate, full-dimensional ab initio potential energy surface.
