Since 2011, Caribbean territories have experienced massive and repeated sargassum seaweed inundations. Once on shore, sargassum degradation through anaerobic metabolism elicits the release of many noxious molecules, including hydrogen sulfide (HS) and ammonia (NH). HS has been long recognized as a malodorous and highly toxic gas, while chronic exposure has not been extensively explored.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is a potent endotoxin released at high concentrations in acute infections, causing massive host inflammatory response. Accumulating evidence indicates that dysbiosis-associated chronic low levels of circulating LPS can sustain a prolonged sterile low-grade inflammation that increases the risk of several non-communicable diseases. Interventions aimed at increasing the abundance of beneficial/probiotic bacteria, including , result in reduced inflammation, favoring metabolic and immune health.

Immunoglobulin G4-related respiratory disease (IgG4-RRD) is relatively rare, with non-specific clinical symptoms. Hemoptysis is a rare clinical symptom of IgG4-RRD, and cases of massive hemoptysis in adults have not been reported.
