Indoor air quality has been recognised as a significant health, environment, and economic issue in many countries. Research findings have demonstrated that some air pollutants occur more frequently and at a higher concentration in indoor air than in outdoor air, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In this context, the indoor environment can be of crucial importance because modem society spends most of their time indoors, and exposure to VOCs may result in a spectrum of illnesses ranging from mild, such as irritation, to very severe effects, including cancer. These effects have been seen at very low levels of exposure in many epidemiological studies. In this review, we discuss the nature of the VOCs that are ubiquitous in indoor environment and the evidence for adverse health effects associated with exposure to some of these compounds.

The development of probes for the efficient detection of volatile organic compounds is crucial for both human health protection and environmental monitoring. In this study, we successfully synthesized a ratiometric fluorescent sensing material [Eu-UiO-67 (1:1)], featuring dual-emission fluorescence peaks via a one-pot method. This material demonstrated exceptional ratiometric fluorescence recognition properties for liquid styrene and isoprene, achieving low limit of detections (LODs) of 6.

Aim: This study aimed to assess if the addition of origanum oil to denture materials could decrease microorganisms counts and biofilm formation without changing their mechanical/surface properties.
Materials And Methods: A total of 66 resilient denture liner discs (SoftConfort, Dencril Comércio de Plásticos Ltda, SP, Brazil) were prepared with fixed dimensions of 10 × 3 mm for biofilm assay ( = 36) and 12 × 2 mm for sorption-solubility tests ( = 30) containing three oil concentrations - 0, 2.5 and 5%, thereby = 12 per each group samples for biofilm assay and = 10 per each group for sorption-solubility test respectively.

Non-volatile electronic memory elements are very attractive for applications, not only for information storage but also in logic circuits, sensing devices and neuromorphic computing. Here, a ferroelectric film of guanine nucleobase is used in a resistive memory junction sandwiched between two different ferromagnetic films of Co and CoCr alloys. The magnetic films have an in-plane easy axis of magnetization and different coercive fields whereas the guanine film ensures a very long spin transport length, at 100 K.

Liquid cell transmission electron microscopy (LCTEM) is a powerful technique for investigating crystallisation dynamics with nanometre spatial resolution. However, probing phenomena occurring in liquids while mixing two precursor solutions has proven extremely challenging, requiring sophisticated liquid cell designs. Here, we demonstrate that introducing and withdrawing solvents in sequence makes it possible to maintain optimal imaging conditions while mixing liquids in a commercial liquid cell.
