Quantitative trait loci (QTL) were detected for 8 internal organ traits, 3 carcass length traits, and teat number trait in 214 pigs in a resource population that included 180 F(2) individuals. A total of 39 microsatellite markers were examined on SSC4, SSC6, SSC7, SSC8, and SSC13. The genetic traits included heart weight (HW), lung weight (LW), liver and gallbladder weight (LGW), spleen weight (SPW), stomach weight (STW), small intestine weight (SIW), large intestine weight (LIW), kidney weight (KW), carcass length to the first cervical vertebra (CL1), carcass length to the first thoracic vertebra (CL2), rib numbers (RNS), and teat numbers (TNS). Results indicated that, 3 highly significant QTL (P

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of replacing soybean meal (SBM) with cottonseed meal (CSM) on growth performance, carcass trait, intestinal development and intestinal microbiota of broilers. A total of 792 one-day-old male Ross 308 broiler chickens were randomly allotted to three treatment groups, with 8 replicates per group and 33 birds per replicate. The control birds were administered a diet consisting primarily of corn and soybean meal.

Background: Identifying markers or genes crucial for growth traits in Zhongwei goats is pivotal for breeding. Pinpointing genetic factors linked to body size gain enhances breeding efficiency and economic value. In this study, we used the MGISEQ-T7 platform to re-sequence 240 Zhongwei goats (133 male; 107 female) belonging to 5 metrics of growth traits at different growth stages (40 days and 6 months, here in after referred to as 40d and 6 m), namely, Body Weight (BW), Body Height (BH), Body Length (BL), Chest Circumference (CC), Tube Circumference (TC) were examined.

Japanese quail () is a popular experimental animal model in scientific research. The present study investigated the effects of dietary multiple enzyme supplementation on growth performance, carcass characteristics, nutrient digestibility and small intestinal histomorphology in quails fed diets based on wheat and soya bean meal. A total number of 192 1-day-old quails were assigned to three treatments with 16 replicates in each and four quails replicate for 38 days.

Effect of hempseed meal on health, growth performance, ruminal fermentation, and carcass traits of intact male goats.

Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences, Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, AL 36088, USA.

Hempseed meal (HSM) is a potential alternative feedstuff for livestock due to its high protein content, but it has not been approved for animal feed in the United States due to safety concerns. This study was conducted to determine the effects of HSM on feed intake, growth performance, serum biochemistry, ruminal papillae morphology, ruminal fermentation profiles, and carcass characteristics of intact male goats. Thirty-six Boer × Spanish intact male goats were randomly assigned to one of four experimental diets ( = 9 goats/diet): 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% HSM on as-fed basis.

The objective of this study was to characterize the progression of rigor mortis and evaluate the influence of chilling time on carcass characteristics, colour, and tenderness of Botucatu rabbit meat in both males and females. The muscles analyzed were the longissimus thoracis et lumborum (LTL) and biceps femoris (BF). As chilling time progressed, weight loss due to chilling increased (P < 0.
