Background: The Public Health Service's Clinical Practice Guideline for treating tobacco dependence recommends 6 system-wide strategies for health administrators, insurers, and purchasers to support tobacco cessation.
Methods: A 24-question survey was sent to each state Medicaid program office in the fall of 2005, including questions to assess whether each state Medicaid program adopted 4 of the 6 system strategies most relevant to Medicaid contracting.
Results: The number of system strategies adopted by state Medicaid programs in 2005 ranged from 0 to 4 of the 4 strategies examined. Oregon, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia adopted all 4 systems strategies for cessation in their Medicaid programs. Seven states adopted 3 strategies, and 14 states adopted 2. Seventeen states adopted only 1 of the system strategies, and 10 state Medicaid programs had not adopted any of the recommended system strategies for tobacco cessation. The most frequently adopted strategy was Medicaid coverage for tobacco dependence treatments, with 75% of the states covering at least 1 recommended treatment under their Medicaid program.
Conclusions: Although most state Medicaid programs have made efforts to adopt at least one of the recommended system strategies to support tobacco cessation, there remains substantial room for improvement. More research is needed regarding the barriers to Medicaid program adoption of comprehensive system strategies to promote cessation among their enrolled populations.

To address the challenge of antibiotic-containing wastewater, a novel micromagnetic carrier-modified integrated fixed-film activated sludge system (MC-IFAS) was developed for treating tetracycline (TC)-containing swine wastewater in this study. The magnetic effects of the MC significantly enhanced TC removal by improving TC biosorption and biodegradation in both the suspended activated sludge and the carrier-attached biofilm in the MC-IFAS. The increased electrostatic attraction and number of binding sites in both the activated sludge and the biofilm enhanced their TC biosorption capacities, particularly in the activated sludge.

Background: Sepsis, a critical global health challenge, accounted for approximately 20% of worldwide deaths in 2017. Although the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score standardizes the diagnosis of organ dysfunction, early sepsis detection remains challenging due to its insidious symptoms. Current diagnostic methods, including clinical assessments and laboratory tests, frequently lack the speed and specificity needed for timely intervention, particularly in vulnerable populations such as older adults, intensive care unit (ICU) patients, and those with compromised immune systems.

Recent progress in superconductor-insulator transition has shed light on the intermediate metallic state with unique electronic inhomogeneity. The microscopic model, suggesting that carrier spatial distribution plays a decisive role in the intermediate state, has been instrumental in understanding the quantum transition. However, the narrow carrier density window in which the intermediate state exists necessitates precise control of the gate dielectric layer, presenting a challenge to in situ map the carrier spatial distribution.

Objectives: The development of valuable artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist with ultrasound diagnosis depends on algorithms developed using high-quality data. This study aimed to test the intra- and interobserver agreement of a proposed image-quality scoring system to quantify the quality of gynecological transvaginal ultrasound (TVS) images, which could be used in clinical practice and AI tool development.
Methods: A proposed scoring system to quantify TVS image quality was created following a review of the literature.

Palladium (Pd) catalysts are promising for electrochemical reduction of CO to CO but often can be deactivated by poisoning owing to the strong affinity of *CO on Pd sites. Theoretical investigations reveal that different configurations of *CO endow specific adsorption energies, thereby dictating the final performances. Here, a regulatory strategy toward *CO absorption configurations is proposed to alleviate CO poisoning by simultaneously incorporating Cu and Zn atoms into ultrathin Pd nanosheets (NSs).
