Small colony variant Staphylococcus aureus colonies are identified in persistent or relapsing S. aureus infections after prolonged antibiotic therapy. An unusual case of multiorgan infection in the absence of prolonged antibiotic therapy in a pediatric patient is reported.

Bacteria have evolved numerous mechanisms to resist metal toxicity, including small-molecule metal chelators (metallophores). This study presents a dual screening methodology to isolate metallophore-producing bacteria from the Carpenter Snow Creek Mining District for potential use in heavy-metal bioremediation. Soil samples were screened on metal-supplemented plates from which colonies were picked onto chrome azurol S (CAS)-dyed plates.

Pemetrexed is a folate analog inhibitor for the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Prophylactic supplementation with vitamin B and folic acid reduces hematotoxicity associated with pemetrexed. Metformin, the antidiabetic agent, has been associated with the potential side effect of vitamin B deficiency.

Berberine (BBR) has been proved to inhibit the malignant progression of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but the underlying molecular mechanism still needs to be further revealed. NSCLC cells (A549 and H1299) were treated with BBR. CCK8 assay, colony formation assay, flow cytometry, TUNEL staining and transwell assay were used to examine cell proliferation, apoptosis and invasion.

Objective: Interleukin-17 E (IL-17E) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that participates in the inflammatory response and tumorigenesis. However, the function of IL-17E in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains largely unknown.
Methods: The clinical value of IL-17E was determined by immunohistochemistry (IHC) in 75 cases of NSCLC tissues.

The collective surface motility and swarming behavior of microbes play a crucial role in the formation of polymicrobial communities, shaping ecosystems as diverse as animal and human microbiota, plant rhizospheres, and various aquatic environments. In the human oral microbiota, T9SS-driven gliding bacteria transport non-motile microbes and bacteriophages as cargo, thereby influencing the spatial organization and structural complexity of these polymicrobial communities. However, the physical rules governing the dispersal of T9SS-driven bacterial swarms are barely understood.
