We report a novel magnetically-facilitated approach to produce 1-D 'nano-necklace' arrays composed of 0-D magnetic nanoparticles, which are assembled and coated with an oxide layer to produce semi-flexible core@shell type structures. These 'nano-necklaces' demonstrate good MRI relaxation properties despite their coating and permanent alignment, with low field enhancement due to structural and magnetocrystalline anisotropy.

Iron/manganese-based layered transition metal oxides have risen to prominence as prospective cathodes for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) owing to their abundant resources and high theoretical specific capacities, yet they still suffer from rapid capacity fading. Herein, a dual-strategy is developed to boost the Na-storage performance of the Fe/Mn-based layered oxide cathode by copper (Cu) doping and nanoengineering. The P2-NaCuFeMnO cathode material synthesized by electrospinning exhibits the pearl necklace-like hierarchical nanostructures assembled by nanograins with sizes of 50-150 nm.

This work reports new findings on the formation of a pearl-necklace pattern in self-assembled upconverting nanocrystals (UCN-PNs) which exhibit strong upconversion emission under an NIR excitation source of a femtosecond laser (Fs-laser). Each nano-necklace consists of several upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) having a size 10 ± 1 nm. UCN-PNs are arranged in a self-organized manner to form necklace type chains with an average length of 140 nm of a single row of nanoparticles.

Assembly of Ultrathin Gold Nanowires: From Polymer Analogue to Colloidal Block.

ACS Nano

March 2017

Department of Physics, Research Institute for Biomimetics and Soft Matter, Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory for Soft Functional Materials, Xiamen University, Xiamen, 361005, China.

Ultrathin nanowires (NWs) are considered to be ideal building blocks for the assembly of complex nanostructures toward future nanodevices. The polymer/particle duality of ultrathin NWs plays an important role in the study of solution phase self-assembly behavior of ultrathin NWs; yet it has not been fully exploited. Herein, we demonstrate the effects of the polymer/particle duality of ultrathin NWs on the morphologies of assembled complex nanostructures.

Water-soluble, luminescent ZnTe quantum dots: supersaturation-controlled synthesis and self-assembly into nanoballs, nanonecklaces and nanowires.

Dalton Trans

March 2016

Department of Chemistry, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Central University of South Bihar (Formerly, Central University of Bihar), Gaya 823001, India.

A supersaturation-controlled aqueous synthesis route has been developed for ZnTe quantum dots (QDs) with high monodispersity, size tunability, stability, band-edge luminescence (full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) 10-12 nm) and negligibly small Stokes' shift (2-4 nm). The degree of supersaturation of the initial reaction mixture was varied by increasing the reagent concentration, but keeping the molar ratio Zn(2+) : thioglycolic acid : Te(2-) constant at 1 : 2.5 : 0.
