Objective: To study the patency and complications associated with the Dialock, an access device for haemodialysis.
Material And Methods: The records of seven Swedish patients who were treated with the Dialock access device between 2000 and 2004 were studied retrospectively.
Results: A total of 10 Dialock devices were used in seven patients. The mean period of patency was 16.3+/-13.8 months. Major complications observed were bleeding in the dose pocket in three patients and infection in four. Three patients experienced no complications. The 1-year patency was similar to that of a newly created arteriovenous fistula used in our unit.
Conclusions: In spite of the associated complications, the Dialock is an acceptable access device for haemodialysis patients with vascular access problems. Although the Dialock is no longer available on the market, similar access devices may be of importance in the future.

Aim: Determine if low-cost magnification devices (USB computer microscope, smartphone) enable the acquisition and maintenance of basic microsurgical skills by comparing skills learned using these devices against those learned using a surgical microscope. Determine whether skills acquired using these devices can be transferred to the surgical microscope.
Material And Methods: Twelve neurosurgical participants, ranging from faculty to postgraduate year-1 trainees, were randomly divided into three groups for training using a surgical microscope, smartphone, or USB microscope.
Severe aortic valve stenosis poses a significant risk for the aging population, often escalating from mild symptoms to life-threatening heart failure and sudden death. Without timely intervention, this condition can lead to disastrous outcomes. The advent of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has gained popularity, emerging as an effective alternative for managing severe aortic stenosis (AS) in high-risk patients experiencing deterioration of previously implanted bioprosthetic surgical aortic valves (SAV), which introduces complex challenges such as device compatibility and anatomical considerations.

Radix entomolaris (RE) characterized by an extra root in mandibular molars is a rare phenotype. When this condition coincides with complex root canal curvatures or S-shaped canals, root canal therapy (RCT) challenges arise. The present study presents three cases of RE along with complex root curvatures.

Background: Essential tremor (ET) is characterized by action tremor of the arms, which can interfere substantially with daily activities. Pharmacotherapy may be ineffective or associated with side effects, and stereotactic surgery is invasive. Hence, new accessible treatment options are urgently needed.

Background: Despite significant distribution of insecticide-treated net (ITNs) by the Government of Uganda to refugees, malaria is major cause of mortality and morbidity among children under five years in refugee settlements. This highlights the persistent challenges and complexities surrounding malaria control and prevention efforts in these settings. Studies that focus on the determinants of ITN utilization among children under five years in refugee settlements in Uganda are not available.
