Fragile sites on chromosomes 9, at 9p21, 10, at 10q25 and 12, at 12q24, were found in the lymphocytes of some members of three families during the study for detection of a fragile X chromosome. The sites were found to be heritable and folato-sensitive. The genetic implications of these results are discussed.

Haemangiomas are benign vascular tumours frequently encountered in head and neck region. The different systems of nomenclature leading to terminological confusion and management protocols for vascular lesions have been contentious issues and have undergone substantial paradigm shift over the years. A policy has been the mainstay of treatment owing to spontaneous regression of majority of paediatric hemangiomas along with sclerotherapy, laser therapy, drug therapy and radiotherapy.

Multicriteria models provide enhanced insight for siting US offshore wind.

PNAS Nexus

March 2025

Center for Innovation, Technology, and Policy Research (IN+), Department of Engineering and Management, Instituto Superior Técnico-Universidade de Lisboa, Lisbon 1049-001, Portugal.

Offshore wind can be a key contributor to energy system decarbonization, but its deployment in certain regions has been slow, partly due to opposition from disparate interests. Failure to sufficiently address the concerns of external stakeholders could continue to hamper deployment. Here, we use a multi criteria model to assess all possible sites in a 2 km × 2 km grid of all potential locations in continental US federal waters, contrasting the perspectives of developers and other stakeholders.

Climate shapes the spatial pattern in local β-diversity of alpine grasslands on the Tibetan Plateau.

Sci Total Environ

March 2025

State Key Laboratory of Herbage Improvement and Grassland Agro-Ecosystems, and College of Pastoral Agriculture Science and Technology, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, China; Institute of Ecology, College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, and Key Laboratory for Earth Surface Processes of the Ministry of Education, Peking University, Beijing, China.

Little is known about the structure of plant communities across the vast Tibetan Plateau, which supports at least 12,000 species of alpine vascular plants including over 2000 endemics. We recorded species abundance in 485 sites stretching across 6000 km of the plateau. At each site, species abundance was measured in three quadrats that were 40 m apart, allowing us to quantify local β-diversity within the site.

Background: The WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) faces major social, economic, and demographic challenges, with nearly half of its countries affected by conflicts that severely disrupt health systems. This study compared antimicrobial resistance (AMR) rates and surveillance efforts in conflict-affected, fragile, and non-conflict countries, further subdivided by income.

Methods: Data on bacteriologically confirmed bloodstream infections (BC-BSIs) from 2017 to 2021 were extracted from the WHO GLASS database.
