Expression and purification of recombinant proteins in is a bedrock technique in biochemistry and molecular biology. Expression optimization requires testing different combinations of solubility tags, affinity purification techniques, and site-specific proteases. This optimization is laborious and time consuming as these features are spread across different vector series and require different cloning strategies with varying efficiencies.

The cellular uptake routes of peptides and proteins are complex and diverse, often handicapping therapeutic success. Understanding their mechanisms of internalization requires chemical derivatization with approaches that are compatible with wash-free and real-time imaging. In this work, we developed a new late-stage labeling strategy for unprotected peptides and proteins, which retains their biological activity while enabling live-cell imaging of uptake and intracellular trafficking.

Angiostrongylus cantonensis, commonly known as the rat lungworm, causes Eosinophilic meningitis in humans. Our study aimed to investigate the prevalence and distribution of this parasite in rats in Haiti. Rats were trapped at 8 sites, 7 in Artibonite (rural region) and one in an urban area of Port-au-Prince.

Objectives: For designing a suitable hydrogel, two crosslinked Alginate/ Carboxymethyl cellulose (Alg/CMC) hydrogel, using calcium chloride (Ca) and glutaraldehyde (GA) as crosslinking agents were synthesized and compared.

Materials And Methods: All samples were characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Blood compatibility (BC), Blood clotting index (BCI), weight loss (WL), water absorption (WA), pH, and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). Cell viability and cell migration were investigated using the MTT assay and the wound scratch test, respectively.

Visual Noise Mask for Human Point-Light Displays: A Coding-Free Approach.

NeuroSci

January 2025

Psychological Neuroscience Laboratory, Psychology Research Center, School of Psychology, University of Minho, Rua da Universidade, 4710-057 Braga, Portugal.

Human point-light displays consist of luminous dots representing human articulations, thus depicting actions without pictorial information. These stimuli are widely used in action recognition experiments. Because humans excel in decoding human motion, point-light displays (PLDs) are often masked with additional moving dots (noise masks), thereby challenging stimulus recognition.
