Epidermal growth factor receptor-dependent mechanisms have been implicated in growth signal transduction pathways that contribute to cancer development, including dermal carcinogenesis. Detection of the extracellular domain of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR ECD) in serum has been suggested as a potential biomarker for monitoring this effect in vivo. Arsenic is a known human carcinogen, producing skin and other malignancies in populations exposed through their drinking water. One such exposed population, which we have been studying for a number of years, is in Bangladesh. The purpose of this study was to examine the EGFR ECD as a potential biomarker of arsenic exposure and/or effect in this population. Levels of the EGFR ECD were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in the serum samples from 574 individuals with a range of arsenic exposures from drinking water in the Araihazar area of Bangladesh. In multiple regression analysis, serum EGFR ECD was found to be positively associated with three different measures of arsenic exposure (well water arsenic, urinary arsenic and a cumulative arsenic index) at statistically significant levels (p

The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is frequently overexpressed in a variety of human epithelial tumors, and its aberrant activation plays a pivotal role in promoting tumor growth, invasion, and metastasis. The clinically approved passive EGFR-related therapies have numerous limitations. Seven EGFR-ECD epitope peptides (EG1-7) were selected through bioinformatics epitope prediction tools including NetMHCpan-4.

Four new macrolides, spirosnuolides A-D (-, respectively), were discovered from the termite nest-derived sp. INHA29. Spirosnuolides A-D are 18-membered macrolides sharing an embedded [6,6]-spiroketal functionality inside the macrocycle and are conjugated with structurally uncommon side chains featuring cyclopentenone, 1,4-benzoquinone, hydroxyfuroic acid, or butenolide moieties.

Exposure to even low levels of the environmental pollutant cadmium (Cd) increases the risk of kidney damage and malfunction. The body burden of Cd at which these outcomes occur is not, however, reliably defined. Here, multiple-regression and mediation analyses were applied to data from 737 non-diabetic Thai nationals, of which 9.

Seven new polyketide compounds, four naphthoquinone derivatives, neofusarubins A-D (, , , and ) and three graminin-like compounds, fusofuranones A-C (-), together with 14 known naphthoquinone derivatives, were isolated from the solid fermentation of , an endophytic fungus obtained from medicinal plant as tea, . The structures of new compounds were elucidated based on chemical evidence and spectral data analysis (1D and 2D-NMR, HR-ESI-MS, ECD, SC-XRD). Among the isolated compounds tested, 2-acetonyl-3-methyl-5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-naphthazarin () exhibited the most potent inhibitory activity against pancreatic cancer in PANC-1, MiaPaCa-2, and BxPC-3 cells.

Background: Kidney transplant is the best replacement therapy for kidney function; However, donors are insufficient, so extended criteria donors (ECD) are needed, which, in well-selected recipients, provide better survival than being on dialysis. Dual kidney transplantation (DRT) should be offered to elderly patients with lower immunological risk and with a lower body mass index. DCE are considered donors who died due to stroke, ≥ 60 years old or aged between 50 and 59 years, with diabetes or previous hypertension, clinical proteinuria, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) between 30 and 60 mL/min, or Terminal serum creatinine > 2.
