gp130 is a shared signal-transducing membrane-associated receptor for several hematopoietic cytokines. The 30 A resolution cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structure of the Interleukin 11(IL-11)-IL-11 Receptor-gp130 extracellular complex reveals the architecture and dynamics of this gp130-containing signaling complex. Normal-mode analysis reveals a repertoire of conformational changes that could function in signal triggering. This suggests a concerted mechanism of signaling involving all the components of the complex. This could provide a general mechanism of signal transfer for cytokines utilizing the JAK-STAT signaling cascade.

The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) assists in the acquisition of invasiveness, relapse, and resistance in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and can be caused by the signaling of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) through Smad-mediated or Smad-independent pathways. (-)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a multifunctional cancer-preventing bioconstituent found in tea polyphenols, has been shown to repress TGF-β1-triggered EMT in the human NSCLC A549 cell line by inhibiting the activation of Smad2 and Erk1/2 or reducing the acetylation of Smad2 and Smad3. However, its impact on the Smad-independent pathway remains unclear.

Efferocytosis is a mechanism by which phagocytes efficiently clear apoptotic cells, averting their secondary necrosis and the subsequent release of potentially immunogenic or cytotoxic substances that can trigger strong immune and inflammatory responses. During efferocytosis, the metabolic pathways of phagocytes are transformed, which, along with the catabolism of apoptotic cargo, can affect their function and inflammatory state. Extensive apoptosis occurs during placental development, and some studies reported the immunomodulatory effects of efferocytosis at the maternal-fetal interface.

Background: Neuropathic pain (NP) is a debilitating condition caused by lesion or dysfunction in the somatosensory nervous system. Accumulation of advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) is implicated in mechanical hyperalgesia. However, the effects of AOPPs on NP remain unclear.

The auxin-inducible degron (AID) system is widely used to study function of various proteins. The plant hormone auxin is used as an inducer in this system, which easily penetrates into the cells and causes proteasomal degradation of the protein of interest fused to a small degron tag. It is often assumed that as a plant hormone, auxin does not significantly affect physiology of animal cells.

Cardiologists have analyzed daily patterns in the incidence of sudden cardiac death to identify environmental, behavioral, and physiological factors that trigger fatal arrhythmias. Recent studies have indicated an overall increase in sudden cardiac arrest during daytime hours when the frequency of arrhythmogenic triggers is highest. The risk of fatal arrhythmias arises from the interaction between these triggers-such as elevated sympathetic signaling, catecholamine levels, heart rate, afterload, and platelet aggregation-and the heart's susceptibility (myocardial substrate) to them.
