Objective: Preeclampsia is considered as a multifactorial disorder with a genetic predisposition. Alterations in the endothelin-1 (ET-1) system are considered to take part in triggering the vasoconstriction seen in preeclampsia.
Methods: In order to investigate the possible association of the -231 G > A polymorphism in the endothelin-1 type A receptor gene (EDNRA), previously shown to be associated with other conditions characterized by vasospasm, we examined 77 Caucasian preeclamptic women and 67 matched controls including normotensive subjects without history of thromboembolic event, abnormalities in blood pressure, proteinuria, edema and preeclampsia. The genotype was assessed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) on genomic DNA extracted from blood samples. Case vs. control allele frequencies and genotype distributions were compared.
Results: No significant differences were found when considering both genotype (chi(2) = 0.58, p = 0.75) and allelic frequencies (chi(2) = 0.08, p = 0.77). Furthermore, no significant genotype-related difference was found in relation to clinical features, such as gestational age at onset, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, proteinuria on admission and delivery week.
Conclusions: No association between the -231 G > A polymorphism in the EDNRA gene and preeclampsia as well as any correlation with the main clinical features of the disorder were found, thus excluding a role for this polymorphism in susceptibility to preeclampsia.

Aim: To study the relationship between laboratory markers and echocardiography (EchoCG) parameters in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) depending on the results of the diastolic stress test (DST).
Material And Methods: The diagnostic algorithm provided by the current guidelines for the assessment of left ventricular (LV) diastolic function was used to select patients. If there were not enough criteria to make a conclusion about increased LV filling pressure (FP) based on standard resting echocardiography data in patients with arterial hypertension and ischemic heart disease, DST was performed to detect HFpEF.

Arthropod-borne viral diseases are acute febrile illnesses, sometimes with chronic effects, that can be debilitating and even fatal worldwide, affecting particularly vulnerable populations. Indigenous communities face not only the burden of these acute febrile illnesses, but also the cardiovascular complications that are worsened by urbanization. A cross-sectional study was conducted in an Indigenous population in the Northeast Region of Brazil to explore the association between arboviral infections (dengue, chikungunya, and Zika) and cardiac biomarkers, including cardiotrophin 1, growth differentiation factor 15, lactate dehydrogenase B, fatty-acid-binding protein 3, myoglobin, N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide, cardiac troponin I, big endothelin 1, and creatine kinase-MB, along with clinical and anthropometric factors.

Despite advances in neonatal and ophthalmological care, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) continues to be a leading cause of childhood blindness worldwide. Investigating gene variants associated with vascular responses in ROP may provide valuable insights into its pathogenesis and identify risk or protective factors. Nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) play roles in vascular regulation, influencing processes relevant to ROP development.

Objective: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare but severe autoimmune disease characterized by immune dysregulation, fibrosis, and vasculopathy. While previous studies have highlighted the presence of functional autoantibodies targeting the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (ATR) and endothelin-1 type A receptor (ETR), leading to autoantibody-mediated receptor stimulation and subsequent activation of endothelial cells (ECs), a comprehensive understanding of the direct interaction between these autoantibodies and their receptors is currently lacking. Moreover, existing data confirming the presence of these autoantibodies in SSc often rely on similar methodologies and assays.
