1,3-Dimethylimidazolium-2-carboxylate and carbonic acid have been used to prepare a 1,3-dimethylimidazolium hydrogen carbonate salt by means of a Krapcho reaction. The ability to form hydrogen carbonate azolium salts allows for them to be used as precursors for fast, efficient, environmentally benign, and halide-free syntheses of many ionic liquids by a simple, acid-base reaction of virtually any acid (inorganic, organic, and organic noncarboxylic) with a pK(a) less than that of HCO(3) (-). Additionally, the kinetics of this reaction can be accelerated by employing catalytic amounts of DMSO (a traditional Krapcho solvent used in decarboxylation reactions) to catalyze the decarboxylation. The crystal structure of 1,3-dimethylimidazolium hydrogen carbonate monohydrate is the first example of an imidazolium-based hydrogen carbonate salt. There is a strong 2D hydrogen-bonded network with facially pi-stacked imidazolium cations located in the cavities created by this framework.

Phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) carboxylase (PEPC) has an anaplerotic role in central plant metabolism but also initiates the carbon concentrating mechanism during C photosynthesis. The C PEPC has different binding affinities (K) for PEP (K) and HCO (K), and allosteric regulation by glucose-6-phosphate (G6-P) compared to non-photosynthetic isoforms. These differences are linked to specific changes in amino acids within PEPC.

Introduction: Sepsis is an uncontrolled systemic response to infection that leads to life-threatening organ dysfunction. The in-hospital mortality rate remains significantly high in septic shock patients with malignancies. This study investigates whether early and high-volume administration of sodium bicarbonate during continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) can reduce 28-day mortality, increase shock reversal rates, and shorten the duration of CRRT, mechanical ventilation, and intensive care unit (ICU) stays.

Apatite nanoparticles are biocompatible nanomaterials, so their film formation on biodevices is expected to provide effective bonding with living organisms. However, the biodevice-apatite interfaces have not yet been elucidated because there is little experimental evaluation and discussion on the nanoscale interactions, as well as the apatite surface reactivities. Our group has demonstrated the biomolecular adsorption properties on a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) sensor coated with apatite nanoparticles, demonstrating the applicability of apatite nanoparticle films on devices.

Purpose: Perioperative metabolic acidosis negatively affects patient outcomes. Perioperative fluid therapy has a clinically significant effect on acid-base balance. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of isotonic sodium bicarbonate infusion (ISB) versus balanced crystalloid solution (BCS) on perioperative acid-base balance, in terms of postoperative base excess, among patients undergoing emergency laparotomy for perforation peritonitis.

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of intravesical alkalinised lidocaine as an anaesthetic treatment on procedural pain during intradetrusor onabotulinumtoxinA (BTX-A) injections for overactive bladder.
Patients And Methods: This single-centre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled two period crossover trial was conducted on women scheduled for BTX-A injections at our outpatient urogynaecology clinic between September 2022 and May 2024. Patients were randomly assigned (1:1) to receive either alkalinised lidocaine or placebo during the first treatment period.
