The authors previously found a strong association between elevated HIV proviral DNA (HIV DNA) and a diagnosis of HIV-1-associated dementia (HAD) vs. normal cognition. It is unclear whether HIV DNA globally affects the diagnosis of HAD or whether the effect is limited to individual neuropsychological deficits. This exploratory study examined baseline HIV DNA and its association with individual neuropsychological deficits. HIV DNA was significantly associated with baseline neuropsychological deficits independent of age, ethnicity, IQ, and plasma HIV-1 RNA levels. However, HIV DNA did not predict future changes in neuropsychological deficits. The data suggest that HIV DNA and neuropsychological deficits may co-vary over time.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 (HIV) set-point viral load is a strong predictor of disease progression and transmission risk. A recent genome-wide association study in individuals of African ancestries identified a region on chromosome 1 significantly associated with decreased HIV set-point viral load. Knockout of the closest gene, CHD1L, enhanced HIV replication in vitro in myeloid cells.

Objective: To discover microRNA (miRNA)-RNA transcript interactions dysregulated in brains from persons with HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND), we investigated RNA expression using machine learning tools.
Design: Brain-derived host RNA transcript and miRNA expression was examined from persons with or without HAND using bioinformatics platforms.
Methods: By combining next generation sequencing, droplet digital (dd)PCR quantitation of HIV-1 genomes, with bioinformatics and statistical tools, we investigated differential RNA expression in frontal cortex from persons without HIV (HIV[-]), with HIV without brain disease (HIV[+]), with HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND), or HAND with encephalitis (HIVE).

Indonesia has one of the highest HIV infection rates in Southeast Asia. The use of dolutegravir, an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI), as a first-line treatment underscores the need for detailed data on INSTI drug resistance mutations (DRMs). Currently, there is a lack of comprehensive data on DRMs INSTI and other HIV drug resistance in Indonesian patients, both pre- and post-treatment.

Background: The use of laryngeal masks (LM) has increased widely today, both in anesthesia and in emergency cases. LM are available as reusable and disposable. Although reuse of disposable LM is not recommended, they are reused again after decontamination with different methods in anesthesia units in some countries.

Background: Although antiretroviral therapy (ART) effectively inhibits viral replication, it does not fully mitigate the immunosenescence instigated by HIV infection. Cellular metabolism regulates cellular differentiation, survival, and senescence. Serine hydroxymethyltransferase 2 (SHMT2) is the first key enzyme for the entry of serine into the mitochondria from the de novo synthesis pathway that orchestrates its conversion glutathione (GSH), a key molecule in neutralising ROS and ensuring the stability of the immune system.
