The crystal structures of several oxides of the La(2/3)Li(x)Ti(1-x)Al(x)O(3) system have been studied by selected-area electron diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and powder neutron diffraction, and their lithium conductivity has been by complex impedance spectroscopy. The compounds have a perovskite-related structure with a unit cell radical2 a(p)x2 a(p)x radical2 a(p) (a(p)=perovskite lattice parameter) due to the tilting of the (Ti/Al)O(6) octahedra and the ordering of lanthanum and lithium ions and vacancies along the 2 a(p) axis. The Li(+) ions present a distorted square-planar coordination and are located in interstitial positions of the structure, which could explain the very high ionic conductivity of this type of material. The lithium conductivity depends on the oxide composition and its crystal microstructure, which varies with the thermal treatment of the sample. The microstructure of these titanates is complex due to formation of domains of ordering and other defects such as strains and compositional fluctuations.

Designing spent graphite anodes from lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) for applications beyond regenerated batteries offers significant potential for promoting the recycling of spent LIBs. The battery-grade graphite, characterized by a highly graphitized structure, demonstrates excellent conductive loss capabilities, making it suitable for microwave absorption. During the Li-ion intercalation and deintercalation processes in battery operation, the surface layer of spent graphite (SG) becomes activated, forming oxygen-rich functional groups that enhance the polarization loss mechanism.

During the initial cycling of lithium-ion batteries, the generation of SEI at the electrode-electrolyte interface and the occurrence of irreversible side reactions consume the active lithium, resulting in irreversible loss of volume (ICL), which may also be accompanied by electrode volume changes and structural collapse. Addressing these challenges has become critical, and pre-lithiation with additional lithium has emerged as a key way to improve battery performance. Hence, this review comprehensively analyzes and summarizes the causes of ICL in lithium-ion batteries, and systematically discusses various prelithiation methods and mechanisms of different electrode structures, especially electrodes.

The photopolymerization-induced microphase separation (photo-PIMS) process involving a reactive polymer block was implemented to fabricate nanostructured quasi-solid polymer electrolytes (QSPEs) for use in lithium metal batteries (LMBs). This innovative one-pot fabrication enhances interfacial properties in LMBs by enabling nanostructuring of QSPE directly onto the electrodes. This process also allows for customization of QSPE structural dimensions by tweaking the architecture and molar mass of poly[(oligo ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate--styrene] (P(OEGMA--S)) macromolecular chain transfer agent.

Background: Little is known on the effect of glycogen synthase kinase-3ß inhibitors (GSK3Is), as a class, on prostate cancer (PC). We aimed to study this in the Canadian province of Manitoba, because mixed results have been reported on the effect of valproate.
Methods: We conducted a nested case-control study among cancer-free Manitobans with ≥ 5 years of medical history in which we matched all men 40 years or older diagnosed with PC between 2000 and 2018 (N = 11,189) on period, age, length of available drug information to cancer-free controls (N = 55,728).

Owing to the nanoscale thickness, excellent mechanical and chemical stabilities, 2D materials including graphene and hexagonal boron nitride have emerged as promising artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) candidates for lithium metal batteries. However, whether the implementation of 2D materials is beneficial to electrochemical performance remains controversial, and the key to confining the electroplated Li beneath the 2D materials remains elusive. Here, a nanocrystalline graphene (NG) film is synthesized on high-carbon Cu and the Li plating/stripping behavior on Cu grown with different 2D materials is investigated.
