Incubation of patients' serum catalytically active by type IIA secretory phospholipase A2 (SP-IIA) with serum containing the enzyme in a high concentration but exhibiting no catalytic activity in 1:1 volume ratio led to a significant inhibition of SP-IIA catalytic activity. donor and patient sera with low levels of SP-IIA had no effect on the serum with SP-IIA activity under these conditions. However, the increase in the content of patients' serum with a low level of SP-IIA in the incubation mixture to 1:2 (v/v) and of donor serum to 1:3 (v/v) also led to blockade of SP-IIA catalytic activity. These results indicate that human serum contains an SP-IIA inhibitor and its concentration decreases significantly in sera with SP-IIA activity.

A Noncatalytic Cysteine Residue Modulates Cobalamin Reactivity in the Human B Processing Enzyme CblC.

Human CblC catalyzes the indispensable processing of dietary vitamin B by the removal of its β-axial ligand and an either one- or two-electron reduction of its cobalt center to yield cob(II)alamin and cob(I)alamin, respectively. Human CblC possesses five cysteine residues of an unknown function. We hypothesized that Cys149, conserved in mammals, tunes the CblC reactivity.

Frustrated Lewis pair chemistry (FLP) occupy a crucial position in nonmetal-mediated catalysis, especially toward activation of inert gas molecules. Yet, one formidable issue of homogeneous FLP catalysts is their instability on preservation and recycling. Here we contribute a general solution that marries the polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) with a structurally specific frustrated Lewis acid to fabricate porous polymer networks, which can form water-insensitive heterogeneous FLP catalysts upon employing Lewis base substrates.

Energy-efficient separation of light alkanes from alkenes is considered as one of the most important separations of the chemical industry today due to the high energy penalty associated with the applied conventional cryogenic technologies. This study introduces fluorine-doped activated carbon adsorbents, where elemental fluorine incorporation into the carbon matrix plays a unique role in achieving high ethane selectivity. This enhanced selectivity arises from specific interactions between surface-doped fluorine atoms and ethane molecules, coupled with porosity modulation.

Telomerase in cancer- ongoing quest and future discoveries.

Telomerase, constituted by the dynamic duo of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT), the catalytic entity, and an integral RNA component (TERC), is predominantly suppressed in differentiated human cells due to postnatal transcriptional repression of the TERT gene. Dysregulation of telomerase significantly contributes to cancer development via telomere-dependent and independent mechanisms. Telomerase activity is often elevated in advanced cancers, with TERT reactivation and upregulation of TERC observed in early tumorigenesis.

Iron-doped nickel oxyhydroxides, Ni(Fe)OH, are among the most promising oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts in alkaline environments. Although iron (Fe) significantly enhances the catalytic activity, there is still no clear consensus on whether Fe directly participates in the reaction or merely acts as a promoter. To elucidate the Fe's role, we performed X-ray spectroscopy studies supported by DFT on Ni(Fe)OH electrocatalysts.
