Here we show that the vasoactive peptide amylin protects against reserpine-induced gastric injury in the rat, resulting in lower score of gastric lesions. Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), its c-Met receptor and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression, usually increased in course of reserpine-induced gastric damage, was decreased in rats treated with amylin. Pretreatment with the specific amylin receptor antagonist AC187 abrogated the gastroprotective effects of amylin and restored high expression levels of HGF, c-Met and COX-2. Our data suggest that protective effects of amylin upon the gastric mucosa are specific and eventually involve modulation of HGF, c-Met and COX-2 expression.

Background: "Active" heat acclimation (exercise-in-the-heat) can improve exercise performance but the efficacy of "passive" heat acclimation using post-exercise heat exposure is unclear. Therefore, we synthesised a systematic review and meta-analysis to answer whether post-exercise heat exposure improves exercise performance.
Methods: Five databases were searched to identify studies including: (i) healthy adults; (ii) an exercise training intervention with post-exercise heat exposure via sauna or hot water immersion (treatment group); (iii) a non-heat exposure control group completing the same training; and (iv) outcomes measuring exercise performance in the heat (primary outcome), or performance in thermoneutral conditions, V̇Omax, lactate threshold, economy, heart rate, RPE, core temperature, sweat rate, and thermal sensations.

Background: The purpose of this study was to examine whether there are sex differences in vasomotor responses and receptor localization of hormones and neuropeptides with relevance to migraine (vasopressin, oxytocin, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, amylin, adrenomedullin and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)) in human intracranial arteries.
Methods: Human cortical cerebral and middle meningeal arteries were used in this study. The tissues were removed in conjunction with neurosurgery and donated with consent.

The incretins (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide [GIP] and glucagon-like peptide-1 [GLP-1]), along with amylin/islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) and insulin-degrading enzyme (IDE), are hormones/enzymes that have been pharmacological targets, such as dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors, due to their insulinotropic actions. Physical training is recommended as a treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM); however, its effects on the concentrations of these hormones/enzymes are not well known. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the effects of combined training (CT) on the concentrations of hormones/enzymes with insulinotropic actions in individuals with T2DM and overweight.

Objective: Combining different pharmaceuticals may be beneficial when treating disorders with complex neurobiology, including alcohol use disorder (AUD). The gut-brain peptides amylin and GLP-1 may be of potential interest as they individually reduce alcohol intake in rodents. While the combination of amylin receptor (AMYR) and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonists have been found to decrease feeding and body weight in obese male rats synergistically, their combined impact on alcohol intake is unknown.

Amyloid-proteinopathy is observed in type 2 diabetes, where Islet amyloid polypeptide is secreted atypically and impedes cellular homeostasis. The thiazolidinediones family is reported to influence amyloid-beta aggregations. However, research on drug-based stimulation of insulin signaling to alleviate Islet amyloid aggregations is lacking.
