Two patients with central retinal artery occlusions secondary to biopsy-proven giant-cell arteritis lost visual acuity to no light perception but recovered to baseline acuity after treatment with intravenous methylprednisolone at a dose of 15 to 30 mg/kg/day. The potential advantages and theoretical basis of early and aggressive treatment with large-dose intravenous corticosteroids in arteritic central retinal artery occlusion are discussed.

Orientation selectivity is a prominent feature of neurons in the mammalian primary visual cortex (V1), yet its emergence along the visual pathway varies across species. In carnivores and primates, neurons with elongated and orientation-selective receptive fields (RFs) emerge in V1, whereas in mice such RFs appear earlier, in the retina or dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus (dLGN). Here, we investigate the RF properties of neurons in the dLGN of a marsupial, the wallaby () (N=2; Males), using multi-channel electrodes and nonlinear input model (NIM) analysis.

Background: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a prevalent cause of irreversible vision loss worldwide, particularly among the elderly population. Two forms of late AMD are described: neovascular AMD (nAMD), characterized by abnormal choroidal blood vessel growth, and atrophic (dry) AMD, involving retinal cell degeneration. Methods: All iERM eyes were graded into four stages based on the presence of ectopic inner foveal layers (EIFL) and underwent 23-gauge vitrectomy combined with ERM and internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling, while their fellow eyes were treated as the control group. OCTA was used to measure retinal thickness(RT), foveal avascular zone (FAZ)-related parameters and superficial and deep capillary plexus (SCP and DCP) layers using 6 × 6 mm scans before, 1 month and 3 months after surgery.
