Published: June 2007

Objective: There is controversial evidence on a matrix influence on the measurement of NT-proBNP.

Design And Methods: We compared results of Elecsys NT-proBNP measurement on serum, K2 EDTA plasma and lithium heparin plasma.

Results: Samples collected in K2 EDTA showed a marginally significant underestimation when compared to serum and heparin, whereas no significant difference was observed between serum and heparin plasma.

Conclusions: Serum, heparin and K2 EDTA plasma may be suitable for NT-proBNP measurement.

Unlabelled: Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is an immune-mediated disease with severe thromboembolic complications. HIT during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) can be fatal without prompt treatment. We report an unusual case of HIT observed during PCI for acute coronary syndrome (ACS).

Background: Except host and environmental factors influencing individual human cytokine responses, pre-analytical handling procedures and detection methods also affect cytokine levels.

Methods: In this study, we used cytometric bead array (CBA) and chemiluminescence (ECL). These two methods were used to test serum and plasma samples from 50 healthy adult volunteers and 50 rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients' cytokine levels.

Background: Patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia experience iron dysregulation, which affects the immune response. Surface proteins such as FcγRIII (CD16), lipopolysaccharide receptor (CD14), and human leukocyte antigen (HLA-DR) on monocytes are crucial for innate and adaptive responses. Blood monocytes, identified by their CD14 and CD16 expression, show functional diversity during injury or inflammation.

Background: Heparin is a widely used anticoagulant in clinic. However, improper dosing can increase the risk of thromboembolic events, potentially leading to life-threatening complications. Clinic monitoring of heparin is very important for its use safety.

Objective: To evaluate the predictive value of plasma heparin-binding protein (HBP) combined with albumin (Alb) for predicting 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis.

Methods: The clinical data of patients with sepsis admitted to the emergency intensive care unit (EICU) of the People's Hospital of Shenzhen Baoan District from March 2020 to March 2024 were retrospectively analyzed. The study began at the time of the first diagnosis of sepsis upon EICU admission and ended upon patient death or at 28 days.
