The Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale modified for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD-YBOCS) is a semi-structured interview designed to assess the severity of current BDD. The aim of the study was to examine the factor structure and construct validity of the BDD-YBOCS. The sample included 366 adults with BDD who completed the BDD-YBOCS and other measures of BDD severity/impairment, psychiatric distress (i.

There is a pressing need to expand the production and consumption of alternative protein sources from plants, fungi, insects, and algae from both nutritional and sustainability perspectives. It is well known that the postprandial rise in plasma amino acid concentrations and subsequent muscle anabolic response is greater after the ingestion of animal-derived protein sources, such as dairy, meat, and eggs, than plant-based proteins. However, emerging evidence shows that a similar muscle anabolic response is observed-despite a lower and slower postprandial aminoacidemia-after the ingestion of alternative protein sources compared with animal-derived protein sources.

An Extensive Study of an Eco-Friendly Fireproofing Process of Lignocellulosic × Particles and Their Application in Flame-Retardant Panels.

Polymers (Basel)

January 2025

Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Materials (LCPM), Campus Fanar, Faculty of Sciences II, Lebanese University, Fanar, Jdeidet P.O. Box 90656, Lebanon.

Increasing the flame retardancy of lignocellulosic materials such as × can effectively enable their wide use. This study examines the fireproofing process of Miscanthus particles using an eco-friendly process by grafting phytic acid and urea in aqueous solution. Miscanthus particles underwent a steam explosion step before being grafted.

Mid-infrared spectral analysis has long been recognized as the most accurate noninvasive blood glucose measurement method, yet no practical compact mid-infrared blood glucose sensor has ever passed the accuracy benchmark set by the USA Food and Drug Administration (FDA): to substitute for the finger-pricking glucometers in the market, a new sensor must first show that 95% of their glucose measurements have errors below 15% of these glucometers. Although recent innovative exploitations of the well-established Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy have reached such FDA accuracy benchmarks, an FTIR spectrometer is too bulky. The advancements of quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) can lead to FTIR spectrometers of reduced size, but compact QCL-based noninvasive blood glucose sensors are not yet available.

With growing environmental concerns and the need for sustainable energy, multifunctional materials that can simultaneously address water treatment and clean energy production are in high demand. In this study, we developed a cost-effective method to synthesize zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires via the anodic oxidation of zinc foil. By carefully controlling the anodization time, we optimized the Zn/ZnO-5 min electrode to achieve impressive dual-function performance in terms of effective photoelectrocatalysis for water splitting and waste water treatment.
