In this study, we aim to elucidate the clinical impact and long-term course of tricuspid regurgitation (TR), taking into account its dynamic nature, after biatrial orthotopic heart transplant (OHT). All consecutive adult patients undergoing biatrial OHT (1984-2017) with an available follow-up echocardiogram were included. Mixed-models were used to model the evolution of TR.

Currently the cornerstone of therapy for ventricular arrhythmic complications and sudden cardiac death prevention in Brugada syndrome (BrS) is an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). BrS patient population differs from the majority of patients with an ICD implanted for structural heart disease, and as widely known, transvenous ICD (TV-ICD) systems have been associated with high complication rates in patients with BrS. Technological evolution of these devices has certainly reduced complications due to the device itself, but a careful preimplant screening of these patients is still essential.

Background: The influence of ventricular assist device (VAD) use in the care of children with end-stage heart failure is growing rapidly through increasing numbers, new devices, expanding indications, and improving outcomes. Pediatric Interagency Registry for Mechanical Circulatory Support (Pedimacs), a National Institutes of Health-sponsored United States database, provides a platform to understand this emerging population.
Methods: Between September 19, 2012, and December 31, 2017, 30 hospitals implanted 508 devices in 423 patients aged younger than 19 years.

Background: The mechanical circulatory support (MCS) is an effective treatment in critically ill patients with end-stage heart failure (ESHF) that, however, may cause a severe multiorgan failure syndrome (MOFS) in these subjects. The impact of altered inflammatory response, associated to MOFS, on clinical evolution of MCS postimplantation patients has not been yet clarified.
Methods: Circulating cytokines, adhesion molecules, and a marker of monocyte activation (neopterin) were determined in 53 MCS-treated patients, at preimplant and until 2 weeks.
