Cyclone: java-based querying and computing with Pathway/Genome databases.

Unlabelled: Cyclone aims at facilitating the use of BioCyc, a collection of Pathway/Genome Databases (PGDBs). Cyclone provides a fully extensible Java Object API to analyze and visualize these data. Cyclone can read and write PGDBs, and can write its own data in the CycloneML format. This format is automatically generated from the BioCyc ontology by Cyclone itself, ensuring continued compatibility. Cyclone objects can also be stored in a relational database CycloneDB. Queries can be written in SQL, and in an intuitive and concise object-oriented query language, Hibernate Query Language (HQL). In addition, Cyclone interfaces easily with Java software including the Eclipse IDE for HQL edition, the Jung API for graph algorithms or Cytoscape for graph visualization.

Availability: Cyclone is freely available under an open source license at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/nemo-cyclone.

Supplementary Information: For download and installation instructions, tutorials, use cases and examples, see http://nemo-cyclone.sourceforge.net.

Geologic records of tropical cyclones (TCs) in low-energy, back-barrier environments are established by identifying marine sediments via their allochthonous biogeochemical signal. These records have the potential to reconstruct TC intensity and frequency through time. However, modern analog studies are needed to understand which biogeochemical indicators of overwash sediments are best preserved and how post-depositional changes may affect their preservation.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the unique weather change and acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in the southern Zhejiang Province of China and to provide evidence for better predicting and preventing stroke.

Methods: We retrospectively collected 14,996 ischemic stroke patients data and weather data from January 2019 to December 2021 in the southern Zhejiang Province of China. The correlation and risk between meteorological factors and the number of AIS daily cases were calculated.

The Cayo Santiago rhesus macaque colony is a renowned primate population that has experienced significant natural and anthropogenic ecological variation in their 85-year history. Demographic and familial information is also tracked and collated for the majority of monkeys. Thus, the health history of rhesus macaques at Cayo Santiago should reflect the impacts of both environmental and genetic factors.

The water quality and resources of Lake Ontario's nearshore ecosystem undergo heightened stress, particularly along the northwest shoreline. Hydrodynamic processes linking the distinct nearshore and offshore trophic structures play a crucial role in transporting nutrient-loaded water along and across the shore. Despite the pivotal connection between algae growth and the development of nuisance proportions, the scales over which these processes operate remain poorly understood.

How does globally accumulated tropical cyclone energy vary in response to a changing climate?

Sci Bull (Beijing)

December 2024

Department of Ocean Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen 518055, China. Electronic address:

How tropical cyclone (TC) activity varies in response to a changing climate is widely debated. The accumulated cyclone energy (ACE) is one of the indicators of TC activity and has attracted considerable attention because of its close relationship with the damages caused by TCs. Previous studies have focused on detecting long-term trends in global ACE; however, the results are inconclusive.
