Objective: Evaluate the advantages of color Doppler and pulsed Doppler in the diagnosis and prognosis of fetal pulmonary malformations.

Materials And Method: This retrospective study of 24 fetuses explored pulmonary malformations using sonography. A classification into four groups was made based on the presence of cysts and the echogenicity of the lesion, then analysis of video recordings including Doppler with an interpretation chart: afferent vessel, color chart, spectrum shape (afferent vessel and within the malformation) to determine the contribution of Doppler within each group.

Results: Four lesions were avascular: bronchogenic cysts (three cases), subphrenic sequestration (one case). The other lesions were vascularized and color Doppler determined the source of vascularization feeding the malformation: branches of the pulmonary artery in 13 cases (eight cases of cystic adenomatoid disease, two cases of atresia, and three airway obstacles) or the aorta in seven cases (pulmonary sequestrations) with pulmonary venous return, six cases (intralobular sequestrations), or systemic venous return, one case (extralobular sequestration). The pulsed Doppler recording in the malformation (six cases) completed the color Doppler examination by showing the different spectrum shapes according to the aortic or pulmonary source of flow. The color chart matched in three cases (normal pulmonary segmentation) and was heterogeneous in eight cases (parenchymatous dysplasia). Furthermore, perfusion intensity was correlated with lesion progression.

Conclusion: Color Doppler and pulsed Doppler provided a more precise diagnosis of these malformations and seems to contribute prognostic information.

Objectives: Multiple techniques have been proposed for functional fetal cardiology, including pulsed-wave (PW) and tissue Doppler imaging (TDI), Myocardial Performance Index (MPI), annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE/MAPSE) and spatiotemporal image correlation (STIC). We aimed to compare these techniques' achievability and reproducibility to determine their clinical utility for each cardiac side.

Methods: Uncomplicated pregnancies from 22 to 39 weeks were recruited and images and volumes stored for offline analysis.

Even if rarely detected, right atrial (RA) masses represent a diagnostic challenge due to their heterogeneous presentation. Para-physiological RA structures, such as a prominent Eustachian valve, Chiari's network, and lipomatous atrial hypertrophy, may easily be misinterpreted as pathological RA masses, including thrombi, myxomas, and vegetations. Each pathological mass should always be correlated with adequate clinical, anamnestic, and laboratory data.

Cardiovascular problems in rabbits in reference to hypothyroidism - a four-year retrospective study.

Pol J Vet Sci

December 2024

Department of Epizootiology and the Clinic of Infectious Diseases, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Głęboka 30, 20-612 Lublin, Poland.

The effects of T4 are mainly manifested by positive ino- and chronotropism. The syndrome accompanying hypothyroidism in rabbits (impaired myocardial contractility and reduced ejection capacity) is caused by a deficiency of thyroid hormones - especially T4. The study group consisted of a total of 41 animals: 15 males and 26 females, ranging in age from 2 months to 8 years, with echocardiogram showing reduced fractional shortening (<30%), with normal results of heamatological and biochemical tests.

There is scant information available about the blood flow of the pulmonary artery in avian cardiology. In human medicine, the shape of the Doppler sonographic blood flow profile of the pulmonary artery can be used to access the pressure conditions of the right heart. With this background, this study focused on the examination of the acceleration and deceleration phase of the pulsed-wave Doppler flow profile of the pulmonary artery of healthy racing pigeons.

Background: Mechanical ventilation (MV) is crucial for managing critically ill patients; however, extubation failure, associated with adverse outcomes, continues to pose a significant challenge.

Objective: The purpose of this prospective observational study was to develop and validate a predictive numerical model utilizing bedside ultrasound to forecast extubation outcomes in ICU patients.

Methods: We enrolled 300 patients undergoing MV, from whom clinical variables, biomarkers, and ultrasound parameters were collected.
