2,5-Dihydroxy-4,3'-di(beta-d-glucopyranosyloxy)-trans-stilbene was identified from Morus bombycis Koidzumi roots. The 2,5-dihydroxy-4,3'-di(beta-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-trans-stilbene at a dose of 400-600 mg/kg had hepatoprotective activity comparable to the standard agent, silymarin. The biochemical assays were confirmed by histological observations showing that the 2,5-dihydroxy-4,3'-di(beta-d-glucopyranosyloxy)-trans-stilbene from Morus bombycis Koidzumi roots decreased cell ballooning in response to CCl4 treatment. These results demonstrate that the 2,5-dihydroxy-4,3'-di(beta-d-glucopyranosyloxy)-trans-stilbene component has a liver protective action against CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity.

has a long history of usage as a treatment for metabolic diseases, especially, diabetes mellitus (DM). Thus, we aimed to isolate and evaluate bioactive constituents derived from leaves for the treatment of DM. According to bioassay-guided isolation by column chromatography, eight compounds were obtained from leaves: two phenolic compounds, -coumaric acid () and chlorogenic acid methyl ester (), one stilbene, oxyresveratrol (), two stilbene dimers, macrourin B () and austrafuran C (), one 2-arylbenzofuran, moracin M (), and two Diels-Alder type adducts, mulberrofuran F () and chalcomoracin ().

Behavior of insects, such as pollination and grazing, is usually determined by biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs). However, particularly in O-polluted urban forests, the BVOCs-based plant-insect communication can be disrupted by the reaction of O with leaf-emitted BVOCs, such as between Japanese white birch (Betula platyphylla var. japonica) and a leaf beetle (Agelastica coerulea).

Micropropagation of Mountain Mulberry ( Koidz.) 'Kenmochi' on Cytokinin-Free Medium.

Plants (Basel)

November 2020

Department of Plant Physiology and Biotechnology, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Land Management and Environmental Protection, University of Rzeszów, Ćwiklińskiej 2nd St., 35-601 Rzeszów, Poland.

The aim of the study was to compare two methods of micropropagation of mulberry: single-node culture ("SNC"), and axillary-branching ("AxB"). The experiments were carried out on in vitro cultures for 6 successive passages. The "AxB" cultures were propagated on modified MS medium (+ 25% Ca and Mg), supplemented with WPM vitamins, sucrose (30 g L), and BA (1.

There has been long taxonomic debate on mulberry species (genus Morus) because the classification of mulberry species has relied on morphological characteristics. Although attempts for classifying mulberry species using molecular markers have been performed, phylogenetic relationships among diploid mulberry species remain unclear. In this study, we aim to investigate the genetic relationship between 54 diploid mulberry varieties belonging to seven different Morus species (M.
