Vascular ageing manifestations and hypertension in the community.

Am J Prev Cardiol

March 2025

Université Paris Cité, INSERM U970, Paris Cardiovascular Research Centre, Team Integrative epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases, Paris, France.

Objective: To investigate the association between joint manifestations of vascular ageing (VA) and hypertension.

Methods: We used baseline (2008-2012) and follow-up data (up to 2024) from the Paris Prospective Study III, a French cohort of 10,157 participants. Prevalent and incident hypertension were determined at baseline (blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg or on medication) and at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 years of follow-up (self-reported antihypertensive treatment).

Small mammals and associated infections in China: a systematic review and spatial modelling analysis.

Lancet Reg Health West Pac

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Pathogen and Biosecurity, Academy of Military Medical Science, Beijing, PR China.

Background: As natural reservoirs of diverse pathogens, small mammals are considered a key interface for guarding public health due to their wide geographic distribution, high density and frequent interaction with humans.

Methods: All formally recorded natural occurrences of small mammals (Order: Rodentia, Eulipotyphla, Lagomorpha, and Scandentia) and their associated microbial infections in China were searched in the English and Chinese literature spanning from 1950 to 2021 and geolocated. Machine learning models were applied to determine ecological drivers for the distributions of 45 major small mammal species and two common rodent-borne diseases (RBDs), and model-predicted potential risk locations were mapped.

Background & Aim: Hemolytic anemia is a blood disorder whose incidence is increasing in the world in recent years especially after the pandemic. Conventional treatments include use of steroids and immunosuppresants that are accompanied by numerous adverse effects. With growing interest in using complex multi-component formulations for multi-targeted therapy, the present study aims to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of a traditional herbomineral preparation, , which has been traditionally used as a supplement in iron-deficiency anemia, against phenylhydrazine-induced hemolytic anemia in rodent models.

Diagnosing Late-Onset Tay-Sachs Through Next Generation Sequencing and Functional Enzyme Testing: From Genes to Enzymes.

Neurol Genet

December 2024

From the School of Medicine (A.R.T., J.R.), The University of Queensland; Department of Neurology (W.R., P.A.M., R.D.H., L.V.), Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital; The University of Queensland (P.A.M., R.D.H., L.V.), UQ Centre for Clinical Research; and Genetic Health Queensland (J.R.), Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Tay-Sachs disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive neurologic impairment due to pathogenic variants in the gene that codes for the alpha subunit of β-hexosaminidase. We report 2 cases of adult-onset progressive weakness, ataxia, and neuropsychiatric symptoms in a 30-year-old man and 37-year-old woman. Both patients had compound heterozygosity in the gene with 4 distinct variants.
