During March 2006, a series of statewide conferences was held to discuss home care outcomes, with a special emphasis on strategies for retaining home care nurses. Administrators and owners of home care agencies in one state with high staff retention and a low rate of turnover participated in four panel discussions to share best practices. The discussions were sponsored by TMF Health Quality Institute, the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO). In addition to practitioner panels, a review of the home care research literature on recruitment and retention was presented. This article is derived from the combined evidence shared during those meetings. The three most common strategies for retaining nursing staff were the use of case management or primary nursing, management participation in direct patient care, and open lines of communication.

Purpose/objectives: Hispanic and Latino (hereafter 'H/L') cancer survivors report higher rates of anxiety/depression and are less likely to receive psychosocial services than other survivors. We field-tested a culturally and linguistically adapted cognitive-behavioral therapy intervention with H/L post-treatment cancer survivors. Goals were to: (1) assess feasibility; (2) describe future efficacy outcomes; and (3) examine feedback for refinements.

A growing body of evidence demonstrates occupational night shift hazards. Decades of research point to health risks for nurses contributing to chronic diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cognitive/mental health, and cancers-all associated with earlier mortality. Patient safety, recruitment and retention of quality nursing workforce, and related costs are important concerns associated with night shift work.

Hospital-based supports for families following the death of a child are rare. Virtual interventions may address key barriers to providing bereavement care, but little is known about their acceptability, feasibility, and efficacy. Our hospital's palliative care program offered a six-week closed virtual support group for bereaved parents five times between 2021 and 2024.

Background: The work and life of a resident (or "junior") doctor has changed dramatically over the past 50 years. Descriptions of historic working conditions are usually anecdotal and tinted with nostalgia, but do today's burns and plastic surgery doctors feel working conditions have improved or declined over the last 50 years, and does this have an impact on recruitment and retention?
Methods: An interview was conducted with a retired surgeon who, in 1970, worked as a house surgeon (Year 2 doctor equivalent) in a burns unit for the pioneering burn surgeon Mr. Douglas MacGregor Jackson.
