Objective: To review the treatment of repair gastroschisis with autogenous umbilical cord in 13-year and evaluate its effect.

Methods: Twenty-two newborns who underwent the repair gastroschisis with autogenous umbilical cord between 1992 and 2005. The physical growth, intelligence measuring, area of operation in abdomen in the survived 18 cases were observed and followed-up.

Results: Eighteen patients recovered uneventfully, survival rate is 82%, their growth is well. They all developed incisional hernia near the operation, 9 cases recovered himself, 2 cases was operated to repair the abdominal hernia, 7 cases is under observed.

Conclusions: The material is adopted easily in the operating, autogenous umbilical cord is elastic tissue and no toxicity could relax the abdominal press effectively after the operation, the survival rate is high.

Biogenic hydroxyapatite is known for its osteoinductive potential due to its similarity to human bone and biocompatibility, but insufficient vascularization compared to autogenous bone during early implantation limits bone integration and osteogenesis. Fluorine has been shown to improve hydroxyapatite's mechanical properties and the coupling of osteogenic and angiogenic cells. In this study, fluorine-modified biogenic hydroxyapatite (FPHA) with varying fluorine concentrations was prepared and tested for its ability to promote vascularized osteogenesis.

: The reparative regeneration of jawbone defects poses a significant challenge within the field of dentistry. Despite being the gold standard, autogenous bone materials are not without drawbacks, including a heightened risk of postoperative infections. Consequently, the development of innovative materials that can surpass the osteogenic capabilities of autologous bone has emerged as a pivotal area of research.

Effects of tanshinone IIA on endothelial cell dysfunction in uremic condition.

Department of Kidney Disease and Blood Purification Center, 2nd Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin, China.

An arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is the preferred vascular access for hemodialysis in uremic patients, yet its dysfunction poses a significant clinical challenge. Venous stenosis, primarily caused by venous neointimal hyperplasia, is a key factor in the failure of vascular access. During vascular access dysfunction, endothelial cells (ECs) transform mechanical stimuli into intracellular signals and interact with vascular smooth muscle cells.

Regenerative Strategies in Treatment of Peripheral Nerve Injuries in Different Animal Models.

Tissue Eng Regen Med

October 2023

Department of Anatomy and Embryology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University, Giza Square, Giza, 12211, Egypt.

Background: Peripheral nerve damage mainly resulted from traumatic or infectious causes; the main signs of a damaged nerve are the loss of sensory and/or motor functions. The injured nerve has limited regenerative capacity and is recovered by the body itself, the recovery process depends on the severity of damage to the nerve, nowadays the use of stem cells is one of the new and advanced methods for treatment of these problems.

Method: Following our review, data are collected from different databases "Google scholar, Springer, Elsevier, Egyptian Knowledge Bank, and PubMed" using different keywords such as Peripheral nerve damage, Radial Nerve, Sciatic Nerve, Animals, Nerve regeneration, and Stem cell to investigate the different methods taken in consideration for regeneration of PNI.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the use of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (h-UCMSCs) as an alternative graft material for alveolar cleft repair (ACR), comparing it with traditional methods using PLGA scaffolds.
  • In a controlled mouse model, the researchers created bone defects and analyzed the effects of various treatments on bone regeneration over 4 weeks.
  • Results showed that h-UCMSCs combined with PLGA significantly improved bone fill compared to no treatment or PLGA alone, suggesting potential for future clinical applications in bone repair.
