Published: December 2006

Using 5-(pyrrolidin-2-yl)-1H-tetrazole as an organic catalyst, the nitrocyclopropanation of 2-cyclohexen-1-one has been achieved, proceeding in high yield and with good enantioselective control.

Axially chiral -VQMs have been extensively investigated as key intermediates to approach miscellaneous chiral structures. By sharp contrast, their structural isomers -VQMs have not been previously documented. The major reason, which results in the significant delay, may ascribe to the inherent challenges in the enantioselective activation of alkynes in a remote manner.

In recent years, mechanosynthesis of peptides through either chemical or enzymatic routes has been accomplished. In part, this advancement has been driven due to the organocatalytic properties of peptide-based biomaterials. In this work, we report the merging of chemical and enzymatic protocols under mechanochemical conditions to synthesize peptide materials based on L-proline and L-phenylalanine.

Axial chirality is present in a variety of naturally occurring compounds, and is becoming increasingly relevant also in medicine. Many axially chiral compounds are important as catalysts in asymmetric catalysis or have chiroptical properties. This review overviews recent progress in the synthesis of axially chiral compounds via asymmetric organocatalysis.

Carboranyl amines are distinct from typical organic amines. Due to the electronic influence of the carborane cage, they have low nucleophilicity and are reluctant to alkylate. Moreover, asymmetric synthesis of chiral carboranes is still in its infancy.

The majority of enantioselective organocatalytic reactions occur in apolar or weakly polar organic solvents. Nevertheless, the influence of solute-solvent van der Waals forces on the relative kinetics of competitive pathways remains poorly understood. In this study, we provide a first insight into the nature and strength of these interactions at the transition state level using advanced computational tools, shedding light into their influence on the selectivity.
